From William to Charles and now Camilla, Prince Harry is sparing no one.
The 38-year-old British royal is opening up about what he really thinks of his stepmother. Both in his memoir, Spare, and in his interview with 60 Minutes, he paints an unpleasant picture of the 75-year-old Queen Consort.
While speaking to 60 Minutes correspondent Anderson Cooper last Sunday to promote Spare, Harry accused Camilla of feeding the British press stories about the royal family in an effort to “rehabilitate her image.”
He said his stepmother needed to improve her reputation because she had been portrayed as a “villain” in King (then Prince) Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage. “That made her dangerous because of the connections that she was forging within the British press,” he told Cooper.
He added, “And there was open willingness on both sides to trade of information. And with a family built on hierarchy, and with her, on the way to being Queen Consort, there was gonna be people or bodies left in the street because of that.”
Harry also revealed to Cooper that both he and his brother, Prince William, had asked their father not to marry Camilla.
Because they wanted him “to be happy” and “saw how happy he was with her,” they eventually warmed up to the idea of them marrying.
Charles and Camilla wed in 2005. Although they waited eight years after Diana’s death to get married, they had been in an on-and-off affair for decades. Camilla was once described by the late Princess of Wales as the third person in their marriage.
In Spare, Harry also described his stepmother as dangerous: “In a funny way, I even wanted Camilla to be happy. Maybe she'd be less dangerous if she was happy?”
On his father marrying her and her alleged connections with the press, he wrote, “I had complex feelings about gaining a stepparent, who I thought had recently sacrificed me on her personal PR altar.”
Harry also made shocking allegations against his brother and father. He accused William of violently attacking him over Megxit, and Charles of being jealous of Meghan Markle’s popularity.
