Shakira is starting the new year with positivity.

The 45-year-old Colombian singer may have had a tumultuous 2022 but she’s not letting it get her spirits down as 2023 begins. She took to Instagram recently to share an inspiring message with her 78.1 million followers about continuing to love in the midst of heartbreak.

Time Heals

Written in both Spanish and English, Shakira’s post starts with a message about healing.

“Even if our wounds are still open in this new year, time has a surgeon’s hands,” she says.

'Continue To Trust'

The Hips Don’t Lie hitmaker refuses to let bad experiences turn her into a cynic.

“Even if someone’s betrayed us, we must continue to trust others,” she adds.

'Know Your Worth'

And she’s not losing confidence in herself either, even when treated with disrespect, as she writes, “When faced with contempt, continue to know your worth.”

Shakira has an inspiring reason for opting to stay positive despite the heartache.

“Because there are more good people than indecent ones. More people with empathy than indifference,” she writes. “The ones who leave are fewer than the many who stay by our side.”

'Tears Are Not In Vain'

Towards the end of her message, the Latina beauty waxes poetic as she explains how good things always come out of hardships. “Our tears are not in vain, they water the soil our future will spring from and make us more human, so that even while suffering heartache we can continue to love,” she says.

Shakira’s message is an inspiring start to the new year, following a 2022 which saw the end of her long-term relationship with Spanish football player Gerard Piqué.

Breakup With Gerard Piqué

Back in June, the couple announced via a joint statement that they were splitting after 12 years together.

“We regret to confirm that we are separating,” the statement said. “For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we request respect for (our) privacy. Thank you for your understanding.”

Cause Of Their Split

Piqué, 35, had reportedly been unfaithful to Shakira, which caused the breakup. The two started dating in 2011 and have two sons together: 9-year-old Milan and 7-year-old Sasha.

Legal Woes

Aside from her relationship woes, the singer also faced legal problems in 2022 when the Spanish government accused her of tax fraud. She is set to stand trial.
