Your family should have your back no matter what. If somebody wrongs you, your parents should be the first people to take your side and keep the guilty party away. Unfortunately, we can’t all have that kind of relationship with our parents. The sad reality is that some parents are bad people.
One woman recently found out that her parents don’t have her best interest at heart after they invited her ex over to dinner with them. The parents know why they broke up but insisted that the woman be the bigger person. Now, she’s asking Reddit’s Am I The Asshole Sub if she was wrong for walking out on them .
The User, Imaginary-Lack1465, Shared What Exactly Happened.

Apparently, This Ex Had Been Cheating On Her With Her Friends.

The user states that she does not visit her parents often, eluding to the fact that they don’t quite get along. When she went to visit them one day, she arrived to find out that they invited her cheater ex-boyfriend. OP shares that her parents knew why she and the ex broke it off, and was baffled why he’d be there in the first place.
OP’s mom tells her that the ex’s family was out of town, so they invited him over. They thought that OP should just be the bigger person and sit through dinner with him. OP asks for her food to be put in a container because she had decided to leave and stay in a hotel. Both of her parents are angry about this, believing that their daughter is being immature.
When OP talked to her friends about it, they also told her she was being childish. Now, she doesn’t know if she was in the wrong.
Reddit Commenters Came To OP’s Defense.

It seemed like, for whatever reason, her parents set her up. It’s possible that, despite the cheating, the parents like him as a potential son-in-law, and hoped to get him and their daughter back together.
Whatever the case may be, commenters agreed that OP’s parents were in the wrong.
OP Also Seems To Have Bad Friends.

Her friends took the ex and parents’ sides rather than OP’s, which is confusing and upsetting. It seems like they don’t care about OP as a friend at all.
Pretty Much Everyone Agreed That OP Was The Only One Who Wasn’t In The Wrong In This Situation.

It’s good that OP lives far away from her parents and can limit contact with them. Commenters also suggested she get better friends.
