As British actor Daniel Craig continues to navigate his post-Bond film career, he's said something interesting about his Benoit Blanc character in Knives Out and its sequel, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.

The sequel adds to the character's lore when it reveals a tidbit about Blanc's personal life. While it might make the character more compelling or intriguing to moviegoers, Craig says that the detail isn't a big deal, and shouldn't be treated as such.

The actor plays master detective Benoit Blanc, who's been tasked with investigating the suspicious death of a wealthy family patriarch. In the sequel, Craig reprises the role, this time investigating a more complicated mystery.

Craig imbues the character with a level of intrigue and humanity. In the sequel, Blanc is shown to be living with a male partner, played by Hugh Grant. While the scene is brief, it offers a fascinating glimpse at Blanc's personal life — as well as confirmation that the character is a member of the LGBTQ+ community.

It Really Isn't A Big Deal

"The less of a song and dance we make about [Blanc's sexuality], the better, really, for me, because it just made sense," Craig said in an interview with Deadline.

"And also as I said at the London Film Festival, who wouldn't want to live with the human being that he happens to live with?" Craig asked. "It's nice, it's fun, and why shouldn't it be? I don't want people to get politically hung up on anything."

It's A Different Way Of Looking At Things

After decades of movies and TV shows depicting most LGBTQ+ characters as one-dimensional stereotypes, we've seen a shift in recent years. Queer characters are more prevalent in modern productions, and their sexuality is often just one facet of their character, rather than being used as a punchline.

In Glass Onion, Blanc is revealed to be gay, but it isn't related to the plot in any significant way. It's just a small detail that gives us a glimpse into Benoit Blanc's character.
