Shakira made headlines last summer with the announcement of her split from Spanish footballer Gerard Pique and her alleged tax evasion case.

The court case now revealed intimate details about her former relationship with the footballer, including the fact that they only solidified their romance after their second child.

The Colombian singer and the father of her children were in a relationship for eleven years without getting married before calling it quits this summer.

Brief History Of Her Relationship With Pique

Shakira and Pique met on the set of her music video for the 2010 world cup, Waka Waka (This Time for Africa), and within a year, they became official. The then-couple had their first son Milan in 2013 and their second son Sasha in 2015.

According to her court testimony, Shakira and Pique's relationship from 2011 to 2015 wasn't solid, and it wasn't until Sasha's birth that they got closer. Therefore, she didn't live in Spain as a proper resident except for visits before 2015.

Shakira's Argument

That information came in handy because the Spanish authorities sued the singer for tax evasion between 2012 - 2014. Shakira said she and Pique decided to commit to family living in Spain in 2014, and she became a Spanish resident in 2015.

If her lawyers have evidence to back these claims, the singer will emerge unscathed from the suit. However, if they lose the case, she faces less than two years in jail or a fine. Thus, her taxes in Spain from 2015 to date are in order.

Since she has no prior criminal record and she's a known face in the country, Shakira is less likely to go to jail.

Parting Ways But Prioritizing Their Children

Shakira and Pique released a joint statement confirming their split after some rumors swirled at the beginning of the year. It was short and straight to the point, saying they were separating and asked for privacy through the transition.

The duo also said their children remained the maximum priority and thanked the fans for their understanding and respect. Pique moved back to Barcelona, away from Shakira and the children.

Putting It In The Music

Shakira returned to the booth following her breakup (akin to a divorce, considering the length of their relationship) and released some music. Her first single post-breakup, Monotonia with Ozuna, is almost at 100 million streams on Spotify.

The song explains her feelings about the breakup, and it means dullness per her Instagram post. It's a smart move to turn her pain into music and make some money from it.
