We've all had that moment on Halloween or at any costume or fancy dress party where the costume we chose was not necessarily obvious to everyone around us. There's nothing quite as disheartening as hearing people make the wrong guesses as to what you're dressed as.

For Robert Irwin, the wrong guesses came with a more hostile energy when people thought his costume was real life serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.

Choosing a Halloween costume is tough.

You want something relevant, that people will recognize, but still feels fun and true to yourself. This can be tough, even when you're a celebrity.

You also have to be careful to make sure that the costume you're picking isn't going to get you in trouble.

'Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story' was one of the biggest TV series of the year.

The series follows Evan Peters as the infamous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer and has been no stranger to controversy, especially when it comes to the fact that the real life victims' families were not consulted for the project.

Because of the show's popularity, many were worried that Dahmer would be a popular Halloween costume choice.

It was especially a concern given that Dahmer's signature look is fairly easy to imitate: large, gold glasses frames and a blonde haircut is all someone would really need.

It wasn't just Twitter users who were concerned.

Some family members of Dahmer's victims have spoken out as well.

"It’s already super triggering to see a hit Netflix series about the serial killer, much less folks dressing like the killer," mother of Dahmer victim Tony Hughes told TMZ.

When Robert Irwin shared a video of his costume, some fans immediately assumed he was dressed as Jeffrey Dahmer.

In a video posted to Robert's TikTok, he showed off his Halloween costume, which was unfortunately a pair of large, gold glasses frames with his blonde hair parted in the middle.

For some viewers, this was a bit too familiar.

Fans in the comments began to call out what they assumed was a Jeffrey Dahmer costume.

"Tell me he's not dressed as Jeffrey Dahmer on Halloween. Cause if he is then byeeee," one fan wrote.

"Jesus dude I got Dahmer vibes at first," another added.

"Jeffrey Dahmer?" one asked.

Of course, for any fans of 'The Office,' Robert's costume was pretty immediately clear.

Robert was dressed as Dwight from The Office, another character with large glasses and carefully styled hair. This was made doubly obvious by the lines from The Office that Robert was quoting in the video and the fact that his sister, his niece, and his brother-in-law were also all dressed as The Office characters.

Fans who got it were excited for Robert's costume and defended him.

"Guys he’s clearly dressed as Dwight from the office and not Dahmer, have you guys not heard these lines before?" one fan wrote.

"It’s literally the office theme song… idk how people are confused," another added.
