Sylvester Stallone, 76, has spoken out following his wife of 25 years, Jennifer Flavin, 54, filing for divorce.

Fans of the longtime couple were shocked when it was announced that Jennifer had filed for divorce after rumors had swirled about tension in the relationship that centered on a dog the couple recently acquired. Stallone is now speaking out for the first time.

Stallone and Flavin have been married since 1997.

The two began dating in 1988, although they briefly broke up in 1994 after Stallone admitted to an affair with model Janice Dickinson. The couple would reconcile in 1995 and marry two years later. They share three daughters together, Scarlet, Sistine, and Sophia.

It was revealed on August 24th that Jennifer had filed for divorce after 25 years.

Rumors of a split began to circulate when Stallone covered up a tattoo of Jennifer with an image of a dog.

While fans began speculating that the coverup meant that the marriage was on the rocks, Stallone's publicist released a statement on the matter.

"Mr. Stallone intended to refresh the tattoo image of his wife Jennifer however the results were unsatisfactory and, unfortunately, unfixable," the statement read.

"As a result, he had to cover the original image with a tattoo of his dog from Rocky, Butkus."

"Mr. Stallone loves his family. The Stallones are presently filming a reality show together which will debut on Paramount+," the statement concluded.

It was then reported that a dog had been the cause of the divorce in the first place, with TMZ stating that the couple had begun arguing when Stallone brought home a dog that Flavin didn't want.

Stallone has broken his silence to speak out on the matter.

"We did not end the relationship on such a trivial argument," Stallone told TMZ. "We just went in different directions. I have the highest respect for Jennifer. I will always love her. She's an amazing woman. She's the nicest human being I've ever met."

Jennifer has yet to comment at time of writing.
