Ashton Kutcher, 44, is opening up for the first time about a health scare that nearly cost him his vision and hearing.

Sometimes it feels like our favorite actors can be infallible or immortal. They seem larger than life and like nothing can touch them, but just like us, they are often going through hidden battles behind-the-scenes that sometimes the public never hears about. Ashton Kutcher is opening up about his own experience with his health in a new clip.

Ashton Kutcher has been a beloved actor for decades.

While we might feel like we know him well from his work and from his relationship with co-star Mila Kunis, it turns out there's a lot we didn't know about him as well.

Ashton opened up in a new clip from Running Wild With Bear Grylls: The Challenge about a health battle he went through in secret two years earlier.

Ashton shared that he had contracted vasculitis.

Vasculitis is a term for several rare diseases that cause the inflammation of blood vessels.

“Two years ago, I had this weird, super rare form of vasculitis. It knocked out my vision. It knocked out my hearing. It knocked out all my equilibrium," he shared.

"It took me like a year to build it all back up,” he explained.

“You don’t really appreciate it until it’s gone, until you go, ‘I don’t know if I’m ever going to be able to see again. I don’t know if I’m ever going to be able to hear again. I don’t know if I’m ever going to be able to walk again,” Ashton went on, explaining that the experience gave him a new perspective on life.

“I’m lucky to be alive," he said.

We're glad to hear that Ashton made a full recovery and is back to feeling 100%, as well as the fact that he feels comfortable sharing this experience with the world.
