How do you know when someone is cheating on you? It could be a sense of suspicion. It could be catching them in the act. It could come as a result of social media sleuthing.

In any event, it sucks to have your partner cheat on you. But a recent TikTok video may cross the line from old-fashioned detective work to out-and-out obsession.

Cheating has some ugly ripple effects.

While cheating is fairly common, and can be remedied with a break-up, it has a knock-on effect. In short, if you're cheated on or do the cheating yourself, it'll affect the quality of your future relationships.

A TikToker really, really wanted to catch a guy cheating.

The video from @lovebriellle has racked up millions of views so far. It shows two women camped out on the floor of a hotel hallway. It's captioned simply, "Drinks on deck liquid fuel" with "Waiting to catch him cheating" overlaid on the video.

They have drinks and everything.

That bilingual carton of President's Choice fruit juice indicates that this took place somewhere in Canada. There's no resolution to the five-second video, which simply shows the two women taking pictures of the door and pouring drinks for themselves.

Commenters had some thoughts.

The top-level comments were largely supportive of these two women on a mission to catch a boyfriend cheating, even though it wasn't clear whose boyfriend was cheating and there was precisely zero evidence that they wound up catching anybody.

Other commenters weren't having it.

While there may be some catharsis in catching a cheater in the act, that would require actually, y'know, catching them in the act. All we can glean from the video is that these two women hung out in a hotel hallway.

Is it worth it?

If you've ever tried to do a stakeout, you know from experience that it's a painfully boring time, one that often doesn't result in any evidence being gathered. These women are free to spend their time however they want, but it really doesn't seem worth the effort.

There's a follow-up.

In the follow-up, a defensive Briellle says that her boyfriend wasn't cheating, and that it totally wasn't at all weird for her to spend her time trying to catch her friend's boyfriend cheating, and also-also that this was done "in a non-obsessive way."

Sure thing.

The follow-up led to some drama, too.

Once again, commenters were split. Some applauded the move, others thought it was sad and others just wondered where these two women found so much time on their hands. In any event, it makes for some good TikTok drama.

How would you handle this?

On one hand, catching your partner in the act is the only real way to definitively prove that they're cheating. On the other hand, these two women don't seem to have caught anybody doing anything.
