Everyone knows the old joke that McDonald's food never goes bad. We all hear from a friend of a friend that had a friend that did a science experiment at school where they kept French fries in a jar for years that never ever went bad or even changed in appearance. You might even think if you'd had McDonalds from decades earlier preserved somehow, it would be no different than fries straight out of the fryer — but one Reddit user has just proved that wrong.

Reddit user slamminsammy shared an incredible find to the site while renovating the bathroom in his family home.

"Renovating my bathroom and found this in my wall. Do I try them or stuff them back in the wall?" he captioned a shot showing some McDonalds wrappers with an unfamiliar face on them — Speedee, which was the the restaurant's mascot before Ronald McDonald was created, and the logo before the iconic golden arches were created, from 1962 to 1967.

"Our house was built in 1959 and pretty sure these have been there since. Still perfectly crispy," he shared.

The Reddit user gave a little bit more context to the discovery in the comments. "Definitely no recent renovations done in the bathroom I found it in. It was stuck in the original plaster behind and old toilet paper holder," he wrote.

"It was wrapped up in an old rag and I was glad to see it was only French fries. I was nervous I was about to help solve a cold case."

The commenters were quick to identify these as impressively old.

"This is SUPER interesting, belongs in a museum. Some private collector or museum will definitely pay a good price for this," one commenter wrote.

But most people had one very important question on their mind.

"Does anyone else NEED to know what these taste like?" asked one commenter. "Forbidden snack!"

"5 second rule!" one commenter added, with another pointing out, "It's McDonalds 'food' so the *70 year rule applies."

"I wonder what would happen if someone ate those. Would they get bad food poisoning?" another wondered.

While the original poster didn't seem inclined to try it, I have to say that it would be SO tempting. Would you try a bite? Let us know how you feel in the comments!
