If there’s one thing people are always curious about, it’s what goes into the food they eat every day.
And as amazing as it would be to learn the insider secrets behind all the restaurants in our lives, the ones that tend to hit the public eye often center around fast food chains.
After all, the way the menus in these places are standardized means that you tend to have roughly the same experience no matter where in the country you are. And that certainly comes in handy when someone tells you not to get milkshakes at McDonald’s or to skip the bacon cheddar potato wedges at Jack in the Box because that’s relevant to more or less anyone nationwide.
For that reason, it tends to be a source of morbid fascination when a fast food worker shows us how exactly common menu items are made.
But as one video shows, that fascination can turn out comforting when you aren’t being greeted by the slurry that Taco Bell beans come from or seeing what the rotisserie chicken at Subway looks like before the customers see it.
In late January, a TikTok user who goes by @essentialmcdonalds uploaded a very popular video of themselves making a Big Mac.

And as you’ll see in the full video, this video doesn’t purport to reveal some dark secret about the company. So it seems that the 8.6 million people who watched it were just fascinated by the process.
And to give them their due, I suppose I wasn’t aware that each part of the Big Mac bun had its own little toaster. I also didn’t know that the middle piece between the crown and the heel is called a “club.”
Once the bun pieces are toasted, the employee shows how they’re arranged in the box.

They showed us that the club is placed over the crown in the top part while the heel is placed at the bottom so workers can add the other parts of the burger to both of these sections.
As they said, “It gets one shot of Big Mac sauce on each side, it gets the dehydrated onions, and then it gets about a half ounce of lettuce.”
And the worker takes that measurement seriously enough to add some more lettuce to the bottom half after saying that.
After two pickle slices are added to the top and a slice of cheese is added to the bottom, it’s time to bring on the meat.

As we can see here, each section gets a patty, which means the sandwich is nearly complete.
But as the worker said, “This is the most challenging part.”
That’s because they then have to take the club along with everything on it and move it on top of the heel without making a mess.
As we can see here, the worker succeeds and we have ourselves a Big Mac ready to be served.
From there, all that’s needed is to close the box, which places the crown on top of everything else.
There’s something satisfying about seeing it all assembled like this, especially since that process doesn’t come with any unpleasant surprises.
