Being a celebrity isn’t all it’s hyped up to be.
While there is fame, money, and status, there are also some serious drawbacks that make one question whether it’s all worth it.
This largely includes the media and their treatment of certain stars. Unfortunately, some celebs are dealt a harsher hand than others.

1. Britney Spears

Since becoming a mega pop star, the media has found every way to intrude in her life. From made-up rumors to hundreds of paparazzi swarming her, it’s no wonder she had her very public 2007 meltdown.
But ever since the documentary, Framing Britney Spears , premiered on February 5, “We are sorry Britney,” began trending on Twitter.
2. Renée Zellweger

The Judy actress received worldwide attention after attending the Elle Women in Hollywood Awards in 2014.
Since her face looked almost unrecognizable, she soon became the subject of many articles, ruthless memes, and tweets online.
Owen Gleiberman, a film critic, even published a widely-criticized essay, detailing how her face has changed over the years.
Two years after all of the backlash, Renée penned an essay titled ” We Can Do Better ” for The Huffington Post.
3. Jennifer Aniston

The Friends actress had had to deal with the media constantly speculating whether she’s pregnant.
When she finally reached her breaking point, she wrote an essay for the Huffington Post , titled, “for the record, I am not pregnant.”
4. Melissa McCarthy

The gorgeous actress has had to deal with terrible scrutiny from male journalists about her appearance.
During an InStyle interview, she recalled a horrific incident that left her feeling like the “blood drained out” of her.
The interviewer dared to ask,
“Are you shocked that you actually work in this business at your tremendous size?”
“I thought, ‘With my tremendous size, I could tackle you so quickly.'” Melissa recalled.
Sadly, she added that comments like that happen often.
5. Whitney Houston

While she ultimately passed away at the hands of substance abuse, the late singer didn’t appreciate the rumors about her appearance or drug use.
In an interview with Diane Sawyer, she said “Let’s get that straight, OK? I don’t do crack. I don’t do that. Crack is whack.”
6. Amy Adams

The Oscar-nominated actress found herself being attacked by the media for her performance in the film, Hillbilly Elegy .
NME critic Richard Phippen wrote that it “betrays the very people it’s trying to celebrate.” Yikes!
The actress ended up responding to the criticism.
“I never would presume to say what critics should or shouldn’t do,” Adams said when asked by Indiewire whether film critics should put politics aside when reviewing films.
“Everybody has a voice and can use it how they choose to use it.”
8. Kristen Stewart

After playing Bella Swan in Twilight , she had an outlandish amount of criticism towards her character’s mannerisms.
This included biting her lip and stuttering.
She admitted in a Breaking Dawn: Part 2 DVD featurette that this was done intentionally for the character.
9. Beyoncé

The singer became under attack about her “real” age after her father, Matthew Knowles, implied that she had been in her 40s during a 2015 interview .
Since then, there has been a number of articles and conspiracies about her age.
10. Gigi Hadid

When a “prankster” grabbed and lifted Hadid off the ground at Milan Fashion Week, several news sites tried to blame the model for fighting back.
“NOT MODEL BEHAVIOUR,” wrote one headline . “furious supermodel … lashes out”, wrote another.
The “prankster” Vitalii Sediuk, has a reputation for going after several celebs, such as when he tried to lift Kim Kardashian.
After the backlash from the media, Gigi tweeted in her defense.
She wrote that she had “EVERY RIGHT to defend myself. How dare that idiot thinks he has the right to man-handle a complete stranger.”
11. Scarlett Johannson

The actress found herself in hot water after an interview with As If magazine.
She talked about the backlash that caused her to drop out of playing a transgender character in the film, Rub & Tug , in addition to the whitewashing controversy in Hollywood.
“You know, as an actor I should be allowed to play any person, or any tree, or any animal because that is my job and the requirements of my job,” she said.
After her comments received backlash, she released a statement saying that the interview was “edited for click bait and is widely taken out of context.”
12. Rooney Mara

When Mara played Tiger Lily in Pan , she was accused of whitewashing the role. Soon, a petition to cancel the show began circulating online.
While Mara has since regretted her role, she blamed the media for twisting her words.
“I’ve been on the wrong side of the whitewashing debate,” she told *The Telegraph*.
“I feel like that is what is happening. It is being turned into pull quotes and headlines,” she said , adding that these articles are only “pointing fingers at people and taking their awards out of context.”

Prince Harry and Meghan threatened to sue the British media over their harsh treatment of Meghan.
This largely includes the Mail on Sunday for publishing the private letter Meghan wrote to her father, Thomas Markle.
14. Ariana Grande

After breaking off her engagement to comedian Pete Davidson, Ariana found all the rumors and constant breakup stories difficult.
“It’s hard not to bump into news n stuff that I’m not trying to see rn [right now],” she said before taking a break from social media.
