Stars aren’t immune to getting scars. Like us, they may have scratched their leg while climbing up a tree growing up.
Or some, like the one Keanu Reeves has, is a bit more severe (you’ll have to read to find out what happened).

Regardless, what matters is where they come from, as scars often represent a life lived.
Here, 10+ celebs tell the stories behind their scars.
1. Kylie Jenner
During a fan Q&A in 2011, the reality star spilled the details behind the scar that she loves.
“When I was about five, my sister [Kendall] and I were playing hide and seek, and I hid inside this really tall, enclosed gate,” Kylie explained.
“After a while, when my sister didn’t find me, I had to climb up on this sharp pole sticking out from the gate.”
She continued:
“I slipped, and the pole went into my leg. I tried pulling away to get the pole out, but it just tore through my whole leg.”
Um, ouch!
2. Amy Schumer
The comedian has always been an open book. So, of course, she shared a picture of the scar she got from having a C-section with her first child.
“I’m really sorry if I offended anyone with my hospital underwear,” she captioned the photo. “Except I’m just kidding.”
3. Selena Gomez
The singer has a matching scar with her best friend Francia Raisa for a very important reason: Francia bravely donated her kidney to Selena.
The kidney transplant was done to help Selena’s ongoing health problems with lupus.
4. Prince William
What do Prince William and Harry Potter have in common? They both have similar scars!
While Harry got his from a deranged wizard, the Prince was accidentally hit with a golf club when he was 13.
“We were on a putting green and the next thing you know there was a seven-iron and it came out of nowhere and it hit me in the head,” he said in a 2009 interview.
“I call it [my Harry Potter scar] because it glows sometimes and some people notice it — other times they don’t notice it at all,” he said .
5. Kate Middleton
They may have lived completely different lives growing up, but Kate Middleton had more in common with her husband than you’d think.
Kate also has a scar near her hairline. Kensington Palace released a statement, saying, “The scar is related to a childhood operation.”
6. Lena Dunham
Going through endometriosis, a condition that affects the tissue in the uterus, has taken its toll on this star’s body.
But that hasn’t stopped her from loving her body.
“when the Target swimsuit does a [expletive] right, Endo scars & all,” she captioned this pic .
7. Kaley Cuoco
“I had a freak accident,” Cuoco told Ellen DeGeneres when explaining the origin behind the scars on her legs.
“At the end of the lesson my horse spooked and I wasn’t really expecting it and I fell off. I was actually getting up but my horse was still kind of spooking.”
“He was in the corner trying to get away from me. He leaped over me and landed on my leg.”
Since her leg was crushed, surgeons had to insert two steel bars to stabilize the shattered bone.
This left behind two scars: one on her ankle bone and a longer one on the front of her leg just above the foot.
8. Seal
If you ever wondered where Seal got the prominent scars on his face, it’s the result of a skin condition known as discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE).
In addition to causing permanent scars on his face when he was 23, it also caused permanent hair loss.
9. Tina Fey
Now that you’ve noticed her scar on the left side of her jaw, you won’t be able to unsee it.
“It’s impossible to talk about it without somehow seemingly exploiting it and glorifying it,” the comedian told Vanity Fair in 2018.
When she was only five and living in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, a stranger came up and attacked her out of nowhere.
“It was in, like, the front yard of her house, and somebody who just came up, and she just thought somebody marked her with a pen,” explained her husband, Jeff Richmond.
10. Padma Lakshmi
A severe car crash is to blame for the long scar that runs along the Top Chef host’s arm.
This happened when she was just 14: “A tractor-trailer rear-ended us and we fell down an embankment 40 feet.”
11. Jonah Hill
“This is one of the biggest things ever in my life,” Hill told Rolling Stone about the scar on his right arm.
This came about when he was 15 and he and his friend snuck out in an SUV at night. Hill stuck his elbow out the open window while his friend started driving like a maniac.
The car eventually flipped and skidded down the road, dragging Hill’s arm with it.
He’s actually lucky he ended up with just a scar, as he told the magazine that he woke up to two doctors discussing whether they would have to amputate it or not.
14. Malin Andersson
“I had an emergency C section so now I’m living with a scar, and a pouch of fat above it. It’s going to be there for the rest of my life, but I look at it and I think it’s so beautiful because I carried this baby,” Malin said to Cosmo UK .
“I look at myself in the mirror and I’m actually more pleased with myself than I’ve ever been in my life.”
We love to see a woman loving her body to the absolute most!

15. Perrie Edwards
Perrie Edwards has a scar on her abdomen due to an operation, that at one point she didn’t want to talk about. However, she ended up showing it off in an Instagram post.
But for a long time, she said, “I don’t want to show it.”
16. Olivia Buckland
This Love Island star had a lump that was located near her left armpit, and then before her wedding she decided to get it checked.
“It turned out to be a lipoma,” Olivia wrote on Instagram.
“Had it for a good four years and finally plucked up the courage before the wedding to have it removed.”
“It was cut out and was about 3×3 inches!”
We are so glad to know that she’s doing well now!
17. Sean Bean
Bean has a noticeable scar over his left eye that he got from Harrison Ford on the set of Patriot Games .
But he revealed it was due to the “chaotic conditions” they were dealing with on the shoot.
“We were just slipping around on this boat, it was in Los Angeles in a studio on a boat on rockers, hydraulics, there were wind and rain machines.”
Ford ended up slipping and got Bean above the eye, requiring him to get 35 stitches.
“The next day we carried on filming and they shot me from the other side in profile to finish the scene.”
12. Keanu Reeves
The actor has a long scar running up his abdomen from a motorcycle crash. Most people don’t know that about him, since he’s not often topless in movies.
“I call that a demon ride,” Keanu told Rolling Stone .
“That’s when things are going badly. But there’s other times when you go fast, or too fast, out of exhilaration.”
We’re really hoping that he has learned from this and goes on safer rides!

13. Jason Momoa
The actor’s made his mark on Hollywood and one of his trademark things is, in fact, that scar. But the story behind how he got his scar is a little less glamorous.
“It was crazy,” Momoa told Access Hollywood in 2011.
“A guy smashed a pint glass in my face. I got a little over 140 stitches in my face.”
While it is now part of his look, to the point that fans everywhere pretty much know how he got it, we’re 100% certain it was a nightmare when it happened.
