With great power comes great responsibility.
While some celebs make questionable choices ( cough , Miley Cyrus, Lindsay Lohan, Mel Gibson), others use their fame for good.
They’re the ones inspiring us to be better.
Whether they’re running their own charity or using their platform to advocate for change, here are 10+ celebrities who are doing their best to be role models.
1. Selena Gomez
She’s one of the few Disney stars who has remained a good person to look up to.
When faced with body-shamers over her weight gain from lupus, she spoke up to encourage women to not get hung up on appearances.
She wrote on Instagram:
“The beauty myth- an obsession with physical perfection that traps modern woman in an endless cycle of hopelessness, self consciousness, and self-hatred as she tries to fulfil society’s impossible definition of flawless beauty.”
2. Demi Lovato
After going through a lot in her life, the “I Love Me” singer regularly uses her platform to advocate awareness of important subjects.
This includes body positivity, mental health, gender equality, eating disorders, and more.
Even after going through her public relapse in 2018, she came back even stronger.
She told Ellen DeGeneres:
“I think it’s important that I sit here on this stage and tell you at home, or you in the audience, or you right here, that if you do go through this — you, yourself, can get through it. You can get to the other side. It may be bumpy, but you are a 10 out of 10, don’t forget it.”
3. Chloë Grace Moretz
When Kim Kardashian posted a n**e selfie, Chloë even called out the reality star for the impact she has on women.
“I truly hope you realize how important setting goals are for young women,” she began.
“Teaching them we have so much more to offer than just our bodies,” she wrote.
While women should dress however they’d like, Chloë’s message had an important takeaway:
it doesn’t matter what age you are, you should always stand up for what you believe in.
4. John Legend
A huge reason the singer landed the title of People’s Sexiest Man in 2019 is that he’s such a stand-up guy.
This past September, he advocated for change to the country’s criminal justice system by speaking to MSNBC .
5. Zendaya
For someone so young, she sure has her head on her shoulders.
After E! host Giuliana Rancic made some controversial comments about her dreadlocks, the Spider-Man: Homecoming star responded with maturity and eloquence.
“There is a fine line between what is funny and what is disrespectful,” she said in a statement on Instagram.
“There is already harsh criticism of African American hair in society without the help of ignorant people who choose to judge others based on the curl of her hair.”
We also can’t forget that she’s become close friends with Beyoncé, a role model of feminism, self-love, and body positivity.
6. Chance the Rapper
Thanks to his charity, SocialWorks , the rapper has become one of the biggest role models in Chicago.
The charity, which launched in 2016, aims “to empower the youth through the arts, education, and civic engagement.” How amazing is that?
That’s not all. In July 2015, he surprised a group of kids by taking them to Chicago’s Field Museum.
These kids got to have the experience of a lifetime, seeing dinosaur bones and hanging out with someone as amazing and generous as Chance is.
7. Taylor Swift
When the singer’s documentary, Miss Americana came out, the world saw a whole different side of Taylor.
“In the past I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, but due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very differently about that now,” she wrote on Instagram.
The singer advocated for racism to stop and for more support to LGBTQ rights.
“I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country. I believe in the fight for LGBTQ rights, and that any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is WRONG.”
8. Seth Rogen
The actor used his comedic talents for good in 2012 when he founded the Hilarity for Charity organization.
Proceeds go to offer free in-home care for those with Alzheimer’s. This is something that affects the actor personally, as his wife’s mom has it.
9. Yara Shahidi
Not a lot of people can say that Michelle Obama wrote their recommendation letter for Harvard, but this Grown-ish star can!
She also launched the Eighteen x 18 campaign in 2018 to encourage her peers to register to vote.
10. Shawn Mendes
There’s a reason Time magazine honored him as one of the most influential people of 2018.
In 2015, the singer teamed up with the non-profit Pencils of Promise to launch the #BuildASchoolWithShawn campaign.
Together, they raised more than $25,000.
11. Dwayne Johnson
It’s hard to find another like the Rock. He’s hard-working, accomplished, and so humble.
To this day, he still gives back to his fans, like when he gave this retiring teacher this adorable surprise or when he advocated for Black Lives Matter.
12. Tom Holland
Since becoming Spider-Man, the 23-year-old British actor has been dressing up in costume to surprise children’s hospitals across the globe.
At times, he was joined with his co-stars, Zendaya and Jake Gyllenhaal. But with or without them, he loves doing it.
In addition to this, Holland and his family run the charitable organization called The Brother’s Trust.
“Using Tom’s reach and popularity, the trust intends to run a number of events each year and the funds raised then being granted to charities who we support,” the site writes.
