And now, in this oh so progressive time, we’re going to explore some of the characters in cartoons that are part of the LGBT community.
That’s right, we got some representation up in here!

Patty Bouvier
For those of you who watch The Simpsons , you may already know that Marge’s sister is in fact a lesbian.
She had a whole episode where she came out, too.
Haruka Tenoh/Sailor Uranus and Michiru Kaioh/Sailor Neptune
This one gets kind of weird. Not because they’re lesbians, but because when it was made into the English version they were made into cousins.
Which made their romantic relationship… very odd.
Mr. Robert Simmons
While it was hinted at during a lot of the series (especially one episode where he brings his boyfriend to thanksgiving) the series creator finally admitted he was gay in an interview with Buzzfeed.
Nigel Ratburn
This character from Arthur , their loveable teacher, got married to his partner on May 13, 2019, the season 22 premiere.
He is the first and only LGBT character in the series.
Bug Gribble
It seems that Dale’s father, Bug Gribble was gay and is in fact married.
He participated in a gay rodeo, even. Wonder how Hank Hill felt about that one.
Herbert Garrison
Some people might not think Mr. Garrison is a good example for the gay community, but he’s one of the most sexually liberated people on TV.
He’s been gay, a lesbian and even trans!
Enos Fry
Fry’s grandfather (or at least he seems to be Fry’s grandfather) says at one point to his grandson after Fry says he should get married to his grandmother:
“Yeah, folks say that. But did you ever get the feeling you’re only going with girls ’cause you’re supposed to?”
Gangstalicious
This gangster rapper flipped the script for Riley when he found out that one of his favorite rappers was actually gay and almost got killed by a gangster named Lincoln for betraying their love.
Roger
In the same degree as Mr. Garrison, Roger is one of the most sexually liberated people on television.
It’s played up for laughs a lot, but he is unashamed and totally free.
Woodhouse
While Archer’s butler never truly comes out, when we dive into his past it’s shown that he at least had an implied attraction to his pilot friend Reggie.
Or at least a deep admiration.
Marceline the Vampire Queen and Princess Bubblegum
These two characters have quite the rivalry throughout the show, however, it was revealed at a book signing that the two of them had actually dated, which might explain their animosity.
Kaldur’ahm
Aqualad, also know as Kaldur’ahm from Young Justice , might be one of the only Polysexual cartoon characters on television.
Heck, he might be the only one on television in general.
Asami Sato and Korra
While they’re both romantically involved with Mako throughout the series, the two of them discover their sexuality near the end.
They’re in a relationship during the graphic novels, as well.
Sheriff Blubs and Deputy Durland
These two characters, who are seen together throughout the series, finally publically announce their love for each other near the end of it.
And let us just say, we were waiting for it.
Waylon Smithers
While it’s mostly played for laughs in earlier seasons, later the semi-closeted Waylon Smithers gets a more serious look on his homosexuality.
And he gets to be a little more out about it.
