Do you remember what you were like when you were a teenager? Probably at least a little bit awkward. That tendency to say the wrong thing by accident doesn’t completely go away when you get older, but it at least gets a lot better.
One woman was on the receiving end of a comment her teenage daughter’s friend made about her weight. As awkward as it was at the time, the woman made it apparent that she didn’t want the daughter to bring the friend over unless the friend apologizes. With even her husband finding it unreasonable, the woman took to Reddit’s AITI community to ask if she was wrong .
Here’s What Happened

Her Daughter Is Socially Awkward

The daughter, 14, had trouble making friends for most of her childhood. She finally made one and brought her home one day. They all sat down for dinner, and the friend complimented the husband’s cooking, while also making a comment about OP being a bigger woman.
Things got pretty awkward and silent after that, and it made OP feel bad about herself. Later on, the daughter asked if she could have her friend over again, but OP refused unless the friend apologized for her comments. Both the daughter and the husband felt that OP was being unreasonable, especially since the incident happened a while back and wasn’t brought up until that moment.
Redditors Think OP Was Being Unreasonable

It’s pretty clear that the daughter’s friend is probably as awkward as the daughter. Especially at such a young age, it’s kind of expected that they’d make weird, accidentally inappropriate comments like this. Commenters felt that OP needed to understand that the remark was likely not made out of malice for OP’s weight, but just an awkward thing said by an awkward kid.
The Time For Apologies Has Past

Some commenters argued that if OP wanted an apology, she should’ve asked for one at the table. Users argued that it seems weird for her to try and ask for one weeks later.
Some also brought up the fact that the husband was seemingly too casual about the comment when it happened.
Holding A Grudge

Was the friend’s comment appropriate? Absolutely not, but at this point it doesn’t seem like OP needs to hold on to it. It was one mistake that the friend can hopefully learn from in the future, but her daughter shouldn’t be the one to suffer for it.
