Have you ever felt the inclination to take your clothes off at a restaurant? What about at a Cheesecake Factory? I can’t say I have (actually, Olive Garden sometimes hits that good, but I digress), but for one Reddit user, the temptation was simply too much to ignore.
So, here’s the situation
The user, who is 23, said that she and her 24 year-old boyfriend were celebrating their 1 year anniversary at the Cheesecake Factory, a particular favorite of hers. She especially loves their cheesecake.

Things took a pretty steamy turn
“Well everything was going fine and we were having a good time until an elderly man at the next table scooted his chair out just as our server was approaching, causing him to stumble and spill hot coffee on me( down my back). It was obviously burning and startled me so I instinctively screamed and pulled my shirt up,” she wrote in the subreddit r/AmIthe[Expletive].
She accidentally revealed a bit more than she intended
She continued: “I’m pretty small chested so I don’t typically wear a bra and obviously I wasn’t thinking about that when something hot was running down my back burning me so I basically flashed all those at the tables around us. Yes I was embarrassed but at the same time it’s just boobs. I pulled my shirt back down right after realizing what happened but it was up for about 15 seconds.”
It might just be me, but briefly flashing a restaurant is worth it to save yourself some incredibly painful burns. Suffering is not a reward!
Her boyfriend immediately wanted to leave
He called her “overdramatic” for trying to ensure she wouldn’t get burned by the hot coffee. “He told me I had put on a show for everyone in the restaurant especially since I screamed when it happened and that we need to leave,” she wrote.
I want to bodily fight this man. Bullying him verbally is not enough. I’m throwing fists, y’all.
She convinced him to stay, but he shamed her the entire time
“We ended up staying but for the rest of the date he kept saying that the men at tables near us were staring at me and probably thinking about me inappropriately but I said it wasn’t my problem if they’re being gross,” she said. SO TRUE QUEEN.
Her boyfriend told her after the date that she had ruined their anniversary. He was upset she made them stay and said she chose cheesecake over his comfort. Mind you, she was the one sitting there with a burned back, but alright.
Users quickly chimed in
Everyone agreed she did the right thing. “Whipping off the affected clothes is honestly what you’re supposed to do when you get hot liquid on you. You wanna get that [expletive] away from your skin ASAP; a few seconds can absolutely make the difference between a first and second or second and third degree burn,” sailor_moon_knight replied.
Proper burn care trumps decency any day of the week. Argue with the wall!
Others pointed to the infamous McDonald’s coffee lawsuit
“This is the exact reason that McDonald lawsuit is actually such a big deal, the hot coffee spilled in her lap and it stuck the fabric to her skin and she got third degree burns so severe she was in the hospital for eight days and her [genitals were] fused together because of it, obviously part of it was that the coffee was insanely hot, but still.”
Liquid burns are no joke. The lawsuit, which saw 79 year-old Stella Liebeck suing McDonald’s over the spillage of her 180+ °F coffee in 1994, revealed that Liebeck was hospitalized for two weeks while undergoing multiple skin grafts. She then required two years of medical treatments. She won the lawsuit.
Many said her boyfriend needed to go
“I would rethink the boyfriend if he cares more about people potentially getting a glimpse of your chest than about the fact that your back was just burned,” ParsimoniousSalad said.
The fact that he didn’t try to comfort her about the incident is insane to me. Throw the whole man away and slam the door behind him.
She added that she changed out of the shirt
“My back was really red and some minor burns, half of the cup went down my back and half hit my chair/the floor. My bf had a zip up with him, I went to the bathroom to clean up and look at my back and just put his jacket on,” she said in a follow-up comment.
The boyfriend really did the bare minimum in this situation. He let her sit there in pain and only thought about how embarrassed he was that she was in pain.
Obviously, she was voted NTA
Users overwhelming declared her to not be at fault, and the majority told her that it’s time to leave her boyfriend. I’m not going to tell her what to do, but…yeah, it might be time to rethink that relationship. Stat.
