As everyone knows, tattoos are permanent, so most people like to take some time to think about the design they plan on getting in their skin for the rest of their lives. However, this OP on Reddit was highly upset after he got a different tattoo than he originally asked for.
The post is very straightforward; the man starts by explaining that he wanted a specific tattoo to honor the men in his family, as his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather had the same design, so he showed a picture of the tattoo and asked for exactly the same.
Sometime after he got the tattoo, he was thrilled to show it to his grandmother. But, even though he thought it looked amazing, he didn’t detail it as much until his grandmother asked him, ‘who’s AJ?’
The OP was extremely confused by the question until he glimpsed that these letters were included in the design, although it wasn’t part of the original picture he showed to the artist. Then, he made the connection and noticed that these were the artist’s initials.
He returned to the tattoo shop to express his discontent about this arbitrary decision that he wasn’t asked about beforehand. The tattooer responded that this was part of their style and that many artists add their initials to their pieces.
The man demanded a refund from the owner of the shop, and this caused the artist to want to move to another shop; however, he’s still firm about his dissatisfaction with the job because it wasn’t what he asked for in the first place.
That Wasn’t What He Asked For

He Is Planning On Taking Legal Actions
At the end of the post, the OP adds that his sister thinks he was acting wrong, and it shouldn’t be a big deal. Yet, people in the comments are on his side and believe he should take legal action.
Many tattoo artists explained that it is not common nor ethical to add secret things or their initials without asking the client, no matter the style. They pointed out that he was branded as a canvas rather than a person.
He was suggested to sue because tattoo artists aren’t meant to sign their pieces, especially if the design wasn’t theirs. Everyone agreed that this artist shouldn’t be working anymore because they put their initials without consent, and this possibly isn’t their first or last time.
