US President Donald Trump was one of the first to announce that he would be making it to Pope Francis’ funeral, who passed away on Easter Monday, April 21, and indeed, he did with his wife, Melania Trump.
However, he stood out among the 400,000 mourners, including world royals and leaders, with his behavior, which many dubbed the “ultimate disrespect.”
He allegedly didn’t follow the dress code
While the likes of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Irish President Michael D Higgins, and Sir Keir Starmer among many others were seen dressed in black, Trump wore a navy blue suit.
People deemed his attire disrespectful as conventionally, people wear black in funerals, and Trump’s suit made him stand out among the attendees.
People were in shock

Users took to X (formerly Twitter) to object to Trump’s attire, with one user saying: “Why is Trump wearing a blue suit instead of a black one like others. Perhaps Zelenskyy could ask him why he hasn’t dressed more appropriately?”
Other users said that Trump had “zero respect” for the Pope and the funeral.
Trump wasn’t the only one
While Trump wasn’t the only one dressed in navy blue, he took the most heat. Prince William, the Prince of Wales, also wore a navy blue suit but his was a darker shade than Trump’s, so he wasn’t attacked as much as Trump was.
Trump was also attacked for other reasons
Trump was caught on camera chewing gum and checking his phone during the funeral.
People found him a “total embarrassment” and “total disgrace,” for representing his country in such manners during an important event such as this one.
Users were far from satisfied

“Texting from the front row at a funeral…the ultimate disrespect and rudeness from the President of America,” one user said.
“Such a douchebag. Wearing blue, not black. On his phone at the Pope’s funeral. I’m an atheist, but even I show respect for the dead,” another angrily added.
The Pope’s funeral defied tradition
Pope Francis was buried in the Basilica of St Mary Major, as he requested, where he frequented regularly during his life. Additionally, he was buried in a simple coffin, which is not the norm.
“May the Lord grant a fitting reward to all those who have loved me and who continue to pray for me. The suffering that has marked the final part of my life, I offer to the Lord, for peace in the world and for fraternity among peoples,” were his last words.
