In a world that’s constantly changing and evolving, you sometimes have to wonder if we’re better off now, or if the world was a better place before certain things were introduced.
When we asked you, ” What would make the world better if it was never invented ?” we got some pretty interesting answers. Here are just a few of them.
“Plastic.” – Mia Jackson

Yeah, we were probably better off before the invention of plastic. It’s kind of everywhere, and not in a good way. Luckily, more and more people and companies are moving away from the single use kind.
“Cigarettes. [Cause] so many health problems and were pretty much invented for profit.” – Sam Lawley

I, for one, am super glad we don’t live in a world where people could smoke inside pretty much any building anymore. I don’t know if I could handle the constant smell.
“Digital Newspaper apps.” – Alaina Swain
“It is so aggravating trying to read an article, only to get a message halfway through stating that in order to read the rest of it I have to Subscribe.”
Digital media has its pros, but when you have to pay to read every article, it gets annoying pretty quick.
“Fireworks, I hate them.” – Cherie Landis
They may be pretty, but they also scare our pets. And people just love to use them literally any chance they get. I’m not saying they shouldn’t exist, but they definitely have their downfalls.
“Those automatic toilets that flush by themselves. I don’t need Poseidon’s Kiss, thank you.” – Laura Hawkins

The worst part is the fact that they almost always seem to flush before you’re even done. It’s almost enough to make you never want to drink water in public.
“Magazines with articles that make people feel like they’re not good enough.” – Sandy Cronnon Coker
Before we had social media making us feel bad about ourselves, we had magazines making us feel bad about ourselves. Sigh … I guess we just can’t win either way.
“Computers have failed, they were supposed to make the work week shorter!” – Debi Pyne
Hey… wait a minute! Is it just me, or are we all spending way too much time working nowadays. And here I was thinking technology was supposed to make our lives easier…
“Recorders….no parent wants their kids coming home learning to play that thing.” – Rhiannon Hyde
I have some pretty fond memories of annoying my parents with my recorder growing up. Playing Hot Cross Buns over and over can get pretty old pretty quickly, after all.
“Sugar! (let’s be honest guys) I love it also, but without it, we would have healthier teeth, weight, sleep and so on…” – Evelyn Böddeker
Refined sugar may taste good, but it isn’t really all that good for us. Too bad it’s, like, in pretty much any kind of food you buy at the store.
“Too many things to list but I hate daylight savings.” – Dave Hamilton
Yeah, like, what’s the point of moving the clock back and forth every year? Other than making us all confused for a few weeks, that is. At one point it was useful, but now it’s just annoying.
“All pain killers.” – Laura Brown-Garcia

As good as it is to not be in pain, the risk of addiction with some painkillers is too real. Maybe we would’ve been better off if we didn’t invent so many of them…
“The Shake Weight.” – Chaise Herrington
Yeah, it’s definitely one of the more… interesting things we’ve invented. On the plus side, you can live your entire life without ever using one, and you’ll probably be pretty happy, all things considered.
“Homeowner Associations.” – Dawn Marie
I’ve never had to deal with a homeowners’ association before, but it seems incredibly stressful. If it’s anything like TV, there are just way too many rules to follow and keep track of.
“Jet skis and mopeds…..both are a nuisance.” – Nancy Johnson
I’m sure I’m not alone in saying I have no strong feelings toward jet skis or mopeds. But I guess for some people, they’re pretty annoying! I guess they don’t need to exist. But they also, like, don’t need to not exist.
“Social media. Don’t get me wrong, I spend way too much time online. But it’s really taken over our lives in a not so positive way.” – Holly Belgarde

Social media has the power to connect people from all around the world. But… it’s also kind of bad for our mental health. You win some, you lose some, I guess.
“A pen that you just bought that doesn’t work.” – Gerard Mcardle
You know what? I strongly agree with this. The world really would be a better place if we all had pens that actually worked when we needed them to. A lot less rage all around, I’d say.
“The concept of happily ever after and nothing in life goes wrong.” – Louise Payne

At some point, we have to stop having such unrealistic expectations, I guess. Life is going to be filled with ups and downs, and happy and sad moments, after all.
“Working 8 hours a day 5 days a week.” – J Vang Lor
Sometimes, it feels like we spend more time working (or traveling to work) than we do anything else. If only we had more time to ourselves, then maybe people wouldn’t be quite as cranky.
“Electronics. – Christina Hollingsworth
“Families forgot how to be a family. Everyone is always on their phone, playing video games, etc. Kids don’t know how to go outside and play anymore.”
Maybe I’m a little biased, but I have to disagree with this one…
“Taxes!” – Diply Trending
Sigh … I really wish we didn’t have to pay taxes. But you know what they say, money makes the world go round…
Seriously, taxes should have never been invented. Ever.
