When you don’t feel like cooking, and you really don’t want to go out to buy takeout, services like Uber Eats really come in handy. Sure, between delivery charges and tipping your driver, you’re paying a lot more than you would if you’d just cooked something, but that money is pretty much the price of convenience.
But one TikTok user named Alex Mutammara was charged much more than he bargained for during a recent Uber Eats order in which he tried out the new group order function. He posted to the app about how he was charged $57 on top of his regular order for being the leader of the group, and ended up going viral.

Alex stitched with a TikTok from Uber’s official account, which was originally an ad for their new group order feature. But Alex took the chance to talk about how, when he used the feature with his friends earlier in November, the experience was far from good. Everything went well at first, but then he got a $57 charge the next day, simply for being the leader of the order.
Alex contacted customer service but was getting nowhere with them. He’d pretty much given up on getting the $57 refunded by the time he decided to make the video.
The TikTok was an overnight hit, getting over 1.3 million views within two days of being posted.
Users Flocked To The Comments To Express Their Anger At Uber.

When you order from Uber Eats, you kind of expect there to be extra fees. But everyone agreed that $57 was far too much for the company to be charging someone, especially since Alex’s original order of green curry was only around $25.
Others Shared How They’d Been Treated By Uber’s Customer Service.

Too many people had Uber and Uber Eats horror stories to share, including disappearing credits, random charges, and simply not being able to contact customer service.
Many Commenters Thought Alex Should Fight Against The Charges.

There had to be some way for him to get his money back.
A Day Later, Alex Posted An Update Stating That He Got His Refund And An Apology.
Alex had posted a few more TikToks since uploading the first one, but in his latest update, he shared that Uber finally reached out to him. He was glad that he got his money back but unhappy that it took his video going viral for Uber to pay attention.
