Two emperor tamarin monkeys mysteriously went missing from the Dallas Zoo. Police believe the animals were taken intentionally. This is also the latest incident of animals going missing or dead in the zoo.
Two Monkeys Go Missing From Dallas Zoo

Police officials were contacted on Monday morning by zoo officials. Dallas Zoo animals care team reported that a monkey enclosure pen was cut open. That was when they discovered that two monkeys were missing.
Statement Issued By Authorities
As CBS News reports, in a statement by the Dallas police, they said the habitat was intentionally compromised. The police continued that emperor monkeys most likely stay close to their habitats.
Investigations Are Ongoing

However, after a thorough search around their home, the animals were not found. Authorities continued that their investigation was ongoing and gave no details about who their suspects were.
Other Bizzare Incidents Recorded At Dallas Zoo
The incident of the two missing emperor monkeys is the latest bizarre event in the zoo. There have been other incidents of animals going missing or ending up dead have been reported by Dallas Zoo. Just last week, an investigation was carried out about the suspicion of the death of a vulture named Pin. The vulture was found dead under “unusual circumstances” in its home.
A Clouded Leopard Went Missing

The investigation came a week after another incident involving a leopard. A leopard named Nova was intentionally let out from her enclosure on January 13th. The leopard’s habitat was cut open which made the animal escape. Dallas Zoo had to be closed and an hour-long search was carried out.
Police Carry Out Investigation On The Leopard’s Disappearance
Dallas Zoo officials shared on social media that the animal was found near her habitat by 5:15 pm. In the tweet, the zoo officials shared that at that time there was no indication of injury in Nova.
Nova Underwent An Evaluation

Also, the leopard was evaluated by their veterinary staff. Before the animal was found, Dallas police said there was an ongoing criminal investigation. After the leopard was found, police said the criminal investigation would continue. When the animal was found, the zoo posted a picture of her.
Nova’s Habitat Was Not Far From The Children’s Zoo
The leopard’s habitat was in an area that was not far from the Children’s Zoo. Nova’s home was in between Primate Place and Prime Meriden Cafe. The leopard’s section was also across from the tortoise and tigers located in the northeast area of the zoo.
Nova’s Natural Habitat Is In Southeast Asia

Clouded leopards are from Southeast Asia. Nova was brought to the Dallas Zoo from the Houston Zoo. That was where she and her sister, Luna were born.

Clouded leopards are often referred to as the “smallest of big cats,” They are also not related to leopards. The males weigh up to 50 pounds while the females weigh between 25 to 35 pounds.
More Incidents Of Animals Escaping From The Zoo

This was not the first time an animal escaped from its inhabitant. In 2004, a male gorilla named Jabari climbed over a 14-foot wall. The animal weighed 300 pounds and mauled three people. The gorilla was unfortunately killed by police.
Gorillas Have Also Gone Missing
In 2010, a worker left a door open and a gorilla named Tufani escaped. The animal never went into a public area. In 2011, a Code Red was declared by the zoo. An adult chimpanzee named Koko escaped the zoo through an unsecured gate. The animal was later shot with a dart and sedated in a hallway.
