I’d be lying if I said I never watched The Hills , and was never completely obsessed with it.
To be fair, I was like, 12, and was probably way too young to be watching it in the first place. But I just couldn’t get enough of their rich people problems, that I didn’t relate to at all .

With that in mind, I’m warning you all well in advance, this story is cringe-worthy enough to ruin your entire day.
If you’re a true fan of “The Hills” then you’ve probably already heard about the reboot coming this summer.
That’s right. There’s going to be a reboot of The Hills .
So, you can cancel any other plans you had this summer. This is the only thing that matters now.
It’s called “The Hills: New Beginnings.”
Members of the old cast that we all know and love, like Heidi Montag, Audrina Patridge, Stephanie Pratt and Whitney Port will all be there — plus a new, but still very familiar face: Mischa Barton AKA Marissa Cooper from The O.C .
Sadly, our main girl, Lauren Conrad, will not be returning.
I’ll admit, this news was very disappointing to me. But I think the show will be able to survive without her.
And hey, maybe if the show does really well, Lauren will want a piece of the pie, and make an appearance after all. Who knows!
Anyways, Vogue sat down with some of the old cast members to discuss the new series.
Everything was going smoothly, until Heidi sad something that made everyone collectively cringe, with a subsequent head-shake of disappointment in humanity.
The interviewer asked Heidi about the lack of diversity in the original Hills cast.
In retrospect, The Hills had an obviously heteronormative, all-white cast.
There was essentially no diversity in the main cast, by any standard.
Her response was… well, exactly what we expect from Heidi Montag.
“We don’t all look the same,” she said .
She wasn’t finished. It gets worse. So much worse.
“I mean, Audrina has darker hair, I feel like Mischa has darker hair,” she went on .
Yes, this was really her answer when she was asked about lack of diversity on the show.
I’m screaming.
“But yeah, we’re California girls.” She continued.
“And it’s a group of friends, and that just happens to be the group that came together.”
Just when we thought she may try to redeem herself, she said this:
“That’s just the way the show was,” she said, adding “I have other very diverse friends that are not featured on the show.”
That’s great Heidi, would you like a gold star?
I really didn’t expect anything more from her. But it’s still disappointing nonetheless.
It’s 2019, everyone should know what the meaning of diversity is, or at the very least, know that it doesn’t have anything to do with what color people dye their hair.
This person pointed out that Heidi’s understanding of the word “diversity” is probably very foggy.
I believe she made that abundantly clear.
This is accurate.
I really hope that after this interview she did a quick Google search for the definition of diversity.
It’s just a good word for an adult woman to be aware of.
If you’re having a bad week, and this just added to your stress, I can definitely relate.
Every time I start to think that humanity is making some real strides and my faith is beginning to be restored, someone says something like this, and it’s back to square one.
“Dead” is really the only way to describe how I feel after listening to her portion of the interview.
Everyone else in the video did a very solid job of not saying anything tremendously cringey.
I’d like to point out that although the old cast had different hair colors, the new cast all have blonde hair.
So, even if diversity had anything to do with the color of someone’s hair, her point is moot. The female cast members are exclusively blonde.
