People were quick to notice something kind of ironic this week. Donald Trump took a little stumble while walking up the stairs to Air Force One.
He was heading to Camp David with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, just days before his 79th birthday. As he climbed the stairs, he missed a step but caught himself pretty fast.

He didn’t make a fuss or even look back. Just kept walking like nothing happened.
Trump took a stumble but recovered quickly
Trump wasn’t the only one who slipped up. Right after him, Rubio also tripped on the same stairs.
Neither of them made a big deal about it. Trump especially seemed to brush it off and kept moving like it didn’t happen.
Social media quickly noticed the irony
Even though he acted cool about it, the internet didn’t let it go that easily.
People were quick to call out the irony, since Trump had made fun of Biden before for doing the exact same thing.
Trump’s past comments on Biden resurfaced
Back in 2023, Trump said, “Joe Biden can’t even walk up a flight of stairs on Air Force One and he can’t put two sentences together. […] We have somebody that doesn’t have a clue representing us.”
That quote came back fast. Folks didn’t forget.
Online users couldn’t let it go
Once the clip of Trump tripping started spreading, social media jumped in with jokes.
“I’m surprised he hasn’t replaced those stairs with a portable escalator of some kind,” someone tweeted. Another added, “When do they get the wheelchair for him? Someone ask Jake Tapper to find out.”
And someone else wrote, “Time to get Old Man Trump fitted for a wheelchair.”
On Reddit, one person joked, “He must ‘step’ down immediately…That was the bar for stepping down for Biden, right?”
Others rushed to defend Trump’s stumble
Not everyone was laughing though. Some people said it really wasn’t a big deal.
“I stumbled walking the stairs to a concert last night. Sh*t happens,” one person said.
Another added, “That’s a steep climb for anyone. He recovered nicely. I give him an 8.5 for the recovery.”
Someone else on Twitter said Trump handled it well and took the fall “like a champ.”

At the end of the day, people pointed out he’s got way more serious stuff going on than missing a step.
