Donald Trump had some thoughts about Europe and World War Two. And he didn’t hold back.
Earlier this month, even though he declared April 2 as ‘Liberation Day’ in the US, he also called America a “stupid country.” Then things got more heated when he took aim at Europe.
Speaking to troops, Trump doesn’t hold back
On May 15, Trump spoke to American soldiers in Qatar while visiting the Middle East.
He told them, “A week ago, May 8, I call up a certain country and they say, ‘Oh we’re celebrating the victory of World War Two today.’
And I say, ‘Oh okay.’”
He’s confused why everyone’s celebrating except the US
Trump kept going. “I speak to one of the presidents or prime ministers or whatever. And they were so busy, ‘Oh yes we’re celebrating the victory of WW2.’ And I speak to another one and they’re celebrating.
And the fact is Russia was celebrating, France was celebrating, everyone but us.”
According to Trump, the credit really belonged to America
“We’re the ones that won the war. We won the war and they help, but without us they don’t win the war, we’re all speaking German… without us they’re speaking German and maybe a little Japanese too.”
Trump throws some shade at France’s role
Then he turned his attention to France. “I think we did a little more to win the war than France did. Now, we love France, right? But I think we did a little more to win the war than France. Do we agree?
“I don’t want to be a wise guy, but when Hitler made a speech at the Eiffel Tower, I would say that wasn’t exactly ideal.”
Mocking Macron’s tone, he questions the celebration
Trump didn’t stop there. He mimicked French President Emmanuel Macron, saying, “‘Donald, we are celebrating our victory over the Germans.’
I said, ‘What the hell?’ Every country I’ve spoken to in the last week is celebrating the war but us. Isn’t that terrible?”
Trump decides to mark victory days for America
After all that, he said he wanted to fix the situation.
“We won the war and we’re the only ones who didn’t celebrate, so what I did, is I got my crack staff over there and we did it every time we had May 8 and we also have the date in November, that sacred date in November for World War One, because we won that war too.”
Veterans Day renamed under Trump’s plan
Now, according to him, May 8 and November 11 won’t just be about honoring veterans.
They’ll be called ‘Victory Day for World War I’ and more, not just Veteran’s Day, as reported by People.
