President Donald Trump reiterated his previous remarks on the release of the Epstein files in a press statement on Tuesday, July 15, saying that he doesn’t understand the interest in unveiling the files.
He labeled the interest in the case ‘boring’
The president seemed to reiterate his criticism of those who are requesting the release of details around the high-profile Jeffrey Epstein case.
A large portion of the concern regards information on who the clients of the convicted sex trafficker and pedophile Epstein were.
Trump had promised he’d reveal the details
When he was still campaigning for presidency in 2024, Trump had promised his supporters that he would unveil information regarding the case once he was reelected.
But so far, there have been mixed signals from the Trump administration about the whole ordeal.
It was said that there was no list
While Attorney General Pam Bondi said in February that the files were on her desk and awaiting review, she later claimed in July that there was actually no Epstein client list, according to a memo issued by the Justice Department and the FBI, per the Mirror.
Trump recently said it was a ‘boring’ case
In a press conference on Tuesday, July 15, which took place after Air Force One landed in Maryland, Trump called the case ‘boring’.
“I don’t understand why the Jeffrey Epstein case would be of interest to anybody. It’s pretty boring stuff,” he said.
He showed his frustration with it
The president expressed his frustration with people’s interest in the case, saying, “It’s sordid, but it’s boring.”
“And I don’t understand why it keeps going. I think, really, only pretty bad people, including ‘fake news,’ want to keep something like that going,” he added, per the Mirror.
Trump supporters are divided by this
Following the DOJ’s memo which claimed that there was no Epstein list, there has been a divide among Trump supporters over the handling of the case.
Many had chosen to back him with the hopes that he would uncover it, per the outlet.
Polls found dissatisfaction with his handling of the files
The outlet also reports that a new Democracy Institute poll showed that around 67% of Trump voters disagree with his decision to not release the Epstein client list.
Overall, the poll finds a slight dip to 63% of all Americans being discontent with Trump’s decision.
