During his speech to Congress, President Donald Trump had a special moment with 13-year-old Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel, a cancer survivor from Houston.
Trump made DJ an honorary Secret Service agent right then and there. DJ has been through multiple brain surgeries and always dreamed of being in law enforcement. It was a big deal.
But then, MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace made a comment about January 6 that sparked a whole debate online.
And just like that, an emotional moment turned into another political fight.
Trump makes DJ Daniel’s dream come true on a historic night
Trump gave DJ, a 13-year-old who’s been battling cancer since 2018, a once-in-a-lifetime honor: an official spot as an honorary U.S. Secret Service agent. That made him the youngest person to ever get the title.
DJ Daniel steps up for his big moment

Right in the middle of Trump’s speech, he turned to Secret Service director Sean Curran and told him to swear DJ in. The kid had always wanted to be in law enforcement, and this was his moment.
As soon as Trump made the announcement, DJ didn’t hesitate — he walked right up and hugged Trump. The entire chamber burst into applause. Then Curran handed DJ his badge, sealing the deal.
The White House shares the touching moment
The White House posted about it later on X, sharing, “13-year-old DJ Daniel was sworn in to the Secret Service last night at the Joint Session.”
They also mentioned that DJ got to visit the Oval Office afterward, where he gave Trump — yep, another big hug.
DJ Daniel shares a powerful reflection on life and faith
After everything settled down, DJ took a moment to share something really personal.
In a post shared by Collin Rugg, he talked about the 13 brain surgeries he’s had and how each one changed his personality in some way.
Then he said, “I’m gonna keep on going until my gas tank runs out. And that’s when God calls you home. You never know when God’s gonna call you home.”
Powerful words from a kid who’s been through so much.
Social media reacts to DJ Daniel’s strength
After his post, people flooded social media with support.
“What an amazing kid. He touched a lot of people last night,” one person wrote.
“This is a fight between GOOD and EVIL,” said another.
“And a child who is a true hero,” someone else added.
DJ Daniel has been proving doctors wrong since 2018
DJ was diagnosed with a rare brain cancer back in 2018. At the time, doctors said he had only about five months to live. But here he is, six years later, still fighting and still proving them wrong.
Since then, he’s traveled all over the country, visiting police departments and getting sworn in as an honorary officer in multiple places.
In December, he became an honorary officer in Jasper, Texas, and he’s received similar honors in Mansfield, Lake Charles, and Aurora.
MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace and Rachel Maddow turn the moment political

It didn’t take long for the moment to turn into a political mess. MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace and Rachel Maddow didn’t hold back, and a lot of people thought they took things way too far.
Maddow actually called Trump “disgusting” for celebrating DJ’s fight against cancer.
“For the record – and this is disgusting – the president made a spectacle out of praising a young man who’s thus far survived pediatric cancer – as if the president had something to do with that,” she said.
Nicolle Wallace links DJ Daniel’s honor to January 6
Wallace took it even further. Instead of just talking about DJ’s journey, she somehow connected it to the January 6 riots.
“I hope he’s alive for another 95 years and I hope he lives the life he wants to live. He wants to be a cop, he knows what he wants to do and maybe when you have childhood cancer that crystallizes for you,” she said at first.
But then she kept going.
“I hope he has a long life as a law enforcement officer, but I hope he never has to defend the United States Capitol against Donald Trump’s supporters and if he does, I hope he isn’t one of the six who loses his life to suicide,” she added.
She then went on to say she hopes DJ never has to testify against “the people who carried out acts of seditious conspiracy and then lived to see Donald Trump pardon those people.”
Many thought this was a huge stretch, and the backlash started pouring in.
People slam MSNBC for politicizing DJ Daniel’s moment
People were not happy with how MSNBC turned DJ’s moment into a political talking point.
“MSNBC just used DJ Daniel to attack President Trump. THESE PEOPLE ARE SICK AND TWISTED,” one person wrote on X.
Another posted, “Rachel Maddow is foul. She couldn’t leave the poor boy out of politics. What a great night for DJ Daniel! Pathetic Maddow needs to get over TDS!”
“MSNBC actually politicized DJ Daniel’s moment at the Joint Address tonight. DJ Daniel was diagnosed with a brain tumor and this hack Nicolle Wallace is talking about suicide and J6? She needs to be fired,” someone else said.
Trump says Wallace and Maddow should be ‘forced to resign’
Trump didn’t hold back on Thursday when he called out MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace for what she said about DJ Daniel. He said she should “be forced to resign” over her comments.
And he didn’t stop there — he also went after Rachel Maddow, who was leading the panel when Wallace made those remarks, saying she should step down too.
DJ Daniel’s courage is what really matters

At the end of the day, DJ Daniel’s story is about strength, resilience, and courage.
As one X user put it, “Last year, young DJ Daniel was harassed and made fun of by a group of people because of his police outfit. Last night, he was honored by the president of the United States and became an honorary Secret Service agent.”
From fighting cancer to standing in front of Congress, DJ Daniel’s journey is nothing short of inspiring.
