A young woman from Brazil got trapped deep inside an active volcano in Indonesia and, sadly, didn’t make it out alive.
Her name was Juliana Marins. She was just 26 and had been missing for four days after falling into a steep cliff area on Mount Rinjani.
Her family later confirmed she had died before the rescue team could reach her.
She was hiking with a guide before it happened

Juliana had been hiking with a guide when it happened. At some point, she asked for a short break.
But instead of waiting, the rest of the group apparently kept going. And when the guide came back to look for her, she was gone.
Turns out, she had fallen off the edge of a cliff.
Her sister said Juliana was confused and lost

Her sister Marianna said Juliana probably didn’t know what to do after the group left her behind.
“She didn’t know what to do. When the guide came back because he saw that she was taking too long, he saw that she had fallen down there,” Marianna shared.
The terrain made the climb extremely dangerous

Others who had done the same trail said it wasn’t an easy hike at all.
One guy who spoke to Globo, a Brazilian TV network, said, “It was really early, before sunrise, in bad visibility conditions with just a simple lantern to light up the terrain which was difficult and slippery.”
So the conditions that morning were already rough. Slippery ground, barely any light.
Drones located her motionless on a rock cliff

At one point during the search, the national park posted on Facebook that they had managed to spot Juliana using a drone.
She was stuck on a rock cliff, around 500 meters down, and wasn’t moving at all.
Rescue efforts were complicated by the terrain

Two rescue workers went down to try to reach her and check the second anchor point, which was around 350 meters deep.
But there were two huge overhangs blocking the way. They couldn’t set up another anchor, so they had to try climbing instead.
It wasn’t a simple rescue at all. The cliffside was tough to deal with.
Poor weather conditions halted the rescue

And then the weather made things worse.
Conditions got too bad to continue the rescue. So the whole operation had to stop, even before they could get to her.
Her family confirmed her death with deep sorrow

Later, Juliana’s family shared the sad update on social media.
“Today, the rescue team managed to reach the place where Juliana Marins was. With great sadness, we inform you that she did not survive.
“We remain very grateful for all the prayers, messages of affection and support that we have received.”
A Brazilian senator demanded accountability

Tereza Cristina, a senator from Brazil, also shared a message on X (Twitter).
She said, “The entire Brazil cheered and prayed that the rescue would arrive in time to save the young woman from Niterói, Juliana Marins, alive. Unfortunately, they could not save her. Very sad.
“Our condolences to her family and friends.
“And may the Brazilian government, through Itamaraty, demand an investigation of the facts and the punishment of those responsible in Indonesia. In practice, Juliana was left behind twice: on the dangerous trail and after she fell off the cliff.”
