I have some good news and some bad news for all of you Mamma Mia! fans out there.
The good news is that the producer wants to make a third installment of the film. The bad news is, Amanda Seyfried is not on board with the idea!
So, the million-dollar question is, is Mamma Mia! going to be able to be the same without her?…
If you don’t think that *Mamma Mia!* is an iconic staple in pop-culture, you are probably lying to yourself.
Okay, so I wouldn’t call it the greatest film franchise of all time, but it’s still an incredibly popular one nonetheless.
If you are one of the rare few who *haven’t* seen it, allow me to fill you in:
The 2008 film is a musical, romantic comedy based on a 1999 musical that goes by the same name.
And as you can probably guess, the songs are all based on songs by the pop group, ABBA.
The first film stars Christine Baranski, Pierce Brosnan, Dominic Cooper, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Meryl Streep, Julie Walters, and of course, Amanda Seyfried.

The film takes place on the Greek island of Kalokairi, where a 20-year-old bride-to-be, Sophie, played by Amanda, reveals to her bridesmaids that she has invited three mystery men whom her mother, Donna, had relations with around the time that she was conceived.
Essentially, she is trying to find out who her biological father is. It’s an uplifting, emotional rollercoaster.

Then, in the second film, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again , we’re taken back in time to the ’70s, to get some insight on Donna when she was an Oxford University graduate.
The film takes us on Donna’s journey through early adulthood, and how she met the three aforementioned men from the first film.

Riveting stuff, really!
Instead of just one love story, they give us three ! I really can’t complain.
Anyways, now that you understand just how amazing both of those movies are, you can probably see why the producer wants to make a third one.

Not only would it likely make her, and everyone involved, a ton of money, it would also be an instant classic.
Unfortunately, the plan for a third *Mamma Mia!* installment seems to be off to a rocky start.

Production had to be postponed due to the pandemic and Amanda Seyfried was, apparently, not so keen about being apart of this one.
In a recent interview with *Daily Mail*, “Mamma Mia!” producer, Judy Craymer, gave fans the full scoop!

She began by explaining how COVID-19 has made things very difficult — getting the film off of the ground.
“I was meant to have been getting on with that, in my head, during these months,” she said. “But then I got hit with COVID fog.”

I think most of us can probably relate to this!
Quarantine hasn’t been an easy time to stay productive. She can’t be blamed.
“I think one day there will be another film because there’s meant to be a trilogy, you see,” she continued.

She confessed that Universal would definitely be enthusiastic about a third Mamma Mia! film being made — for obvious reasons, I assume.
“I know Universal would like me to do it,” she said.

However, contrary to Judy’s comments on a hypothetical third movie, Amanda Seyfried — who plays a critical role in the franchise — has expressed her disinterest in it.
And honestly, her reason for not wanting to make a third *Mamma Mia!* seems like totally sound logic in my opinion.

In a previous interview with Collider , she explained that ABBA’s discography is simply not large enough to make another movie.
“I wish there was a ‘Mamma Mia! 3,'” Amanda said.

“But I’ll tell you what – I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again and I hope I’m wrong again – I don’t think there are enough ABBA songs to make a third movie .”
She explained that they would have to recycle certain songs that they already used — at which point, it may be getting a bit repetetive.

“Because we’d have to use ‘Super Trooper’ again and we’d have to use ‘Mamma Mia’ again and have to use them in a different way,” she said .
What do you think of the producer of *Mamma Mia!* wanting to make a third movie? Should they proceed without Amanda Seyfried?
Or is Amanda right about there not being enough ABBA songs?
