Todd and Julie Chrisley have been pardoned. Trump made the call on May 27, saying he was wiping their records clean.
Back in 2022, they were found guilty of tax evasion and bank fraud, and started their prison sentences in January 2023. But Trump said they were treated unfairly.
“I don’t know them, but give them my regards and wish them a good luck,” he told their kids over the phone.
Their daughter, Savannah, shared the big moment with her followers. She got the call right as she was walking into Sam’s Club. “My phone is going bananas,” she said. “My parents get to start their lives over!”
Savannah has been fighting for this moment
Savannah, who’s 27 now, said she’s been doing everything she could to bring her parents home.
“For the past two and a half years, I’ve done everything in my power to fight for my parents’ freedom,” she said. “This moment is the answer to countless prayers.”
She also gave a shoutout to Trump for seeing the truth. And to Alice Marie Johnson and their lawyer, Alex Little, for sticking by their side.
“This administration does not hand out favors,” she added. “It examines the facts and stands up for what is right.”
She’s not done fighting for others
Even though her family got justice, Savannah says the bigger fight isn’t over.
“There are still so many people out there who don’t have a voice,” she said. “I will continue to use mine to speak up for them.”
“Family is everything to me,” she added. “And I will never stop fighting for what’s right.”
They had been appealing since their sentencing
Todd and Julie were first indicted in August 2019. They were sentenced in November 2022 to a total of 19 years.
They’ve been appealing ever since. At one point, Julie’s appeal was granted due to lack of evidence, but a judge later decided her sentence would stay.
Their sentences were shortened in September 2023.
Savannah had to step up for the kids
While her parents were behind bars, Savannah became the full-time caregiver for Grayson and Chloe.
She was only 25 when she suddenly had to take on that role. “I wasn’t expecting to get two kids,” she said.
With legal bills piling up and taking care of the kids, she said it wasn’t easy. “You fake it till you make it,” she told PEOPLE. “That’s the world we live in… I’ve struggled.”
Savannah used every platform she had
Savannah went public with her fight. Earlier this year, she even said that they were planning to ask Trump directly for help.
She spoke about it at the Republican National Convention in 2024 and brought up everything her family had been through.
“I know that I am going through the proper channels to do so,” she said. “And I’m going to bring as much awareness to it as possible because these things should not happen.”
The phone call felt surreal
When the call finally came, Savannah said she was completely overwhelmed.
“I have shed so many tears,” she said. “The President called me personally… and said he was signing the pardon paperwork.”
She said she was still trying to wrap her head around it. “It doesn’t feel real,” she said. “I’m freaking out.”
Trump said they were treated too harshly
During the call, Trump told Savannah he thought the couple had gotten a rough deal.
“Given a pretty harsh treatment, based on what I’m hearing,” he said.
“It’s a terrible thing, but it’s a great thing, because your parents are going to be free and clean.”
The Chrisleys are heading back to TV
Now, the family is getting ready to be back on camera.
They’ve got a new docuseries coming out on Lifetime. It’s a follow-up to their old shows Chrisley Knows Best and Growing Up Chrisley.
This time, the series will show more of the raw, unfiltered truth about their lives.
There’s no release date yet, but it’s expected to cover both past and present events and might be very different from what fans are used to seeing.
The family is just grateful for the support
As Savannah put it, “I just can’t thank you guys enough for sticking with my family and loving us and supporting us.”
She said she’s already getting things ready for her parents’ return, from clothes to their room upstairs.
“It’s time to go get mom and dad,” she said.
