TikTokers love to coin new terms and phrases to describe the ways in which they live their lives. Recently, the phrase “damp lifestyle” has been floating around. But what exactly is a damp lifestyle? Well, there’s actually a pretty good chance you might already be living it.
A TikToker by the name of Hana ( @hana.elson ) frequently posts videos about how she lives the damp lifestyle and gives tips to others who might not know what it is but want to learn more. Basically, it’s when you don’t completely abstain from alcohol, but you don’t drink often or frequently.
One TikTok That Hana Posted Does A Good Job Explaining What She Means
In the nearly two-minute-long video, Hana explains that “drinking culture and your relationship to alcohol doesn’t have to be black or white.” In other words, you can strike the middle ground between getting blackout drunk every time you go out and not going out or drinking at all. With drinking culture, it can be difficult to see that there is a middle ground to begin with.
Hana explains that for her, the damp lifestyle has helped her improve her mental health, which has positively affected different aspects of her life.
She goes on to explain that living the damp lifestyle has taught her a lot about her personality and that she is still a fun person without being drunk at a party.
Hana Has Been Posting About The Damp Lifestyle For Quite A While
The previous TikTok was from August, but Hana had a different TikTok that went viral back in January. The seven-second clip consists of text overlaid on a video of Hana in a mask, which discusses how more and more people have begun to reassess their relationships with alcohol.
Lots Of Users Had Their Own Thoughts About Living ‘Damp’

In fact, it seems that a lot of people already live the damp lifestyle. Some commenters even shared the terms they use to drink moderately, but socially.
A Lot Of Users Admitted That They Don’t Find Heavy Drinking That Fun

The amount you want to drink should be a personal decision, not something influenced by drinking culture. That could mean only having one drink at a party or deciding not to drink at all.
Though, Some Commenters Pointed Out That The Damp Lifestyle Has Always Existed

The term “damp lifestyle” might be new, but the concept is not new at all. But there’s nothing wrong with using the term if it helps you re-contextualize your relationship with alcohol!
