Gen Z has blessed us with yet another game-changing trend: silent walking. Yes, you heard that right. Walking, but in silence. No phones, no music, just you and your thoughts. I’m sure this concept sounds familiar since its always existed, but Gen Z has just unlocked it so let’s hear them out.
The premise behind silent walking is to, well, walk — in complete silence. You leave behind your phone, ignore that perfectly curated playlist, and just exist. Very mindful.

Invented unintentionally by TikToker Mady Maio, this simple activity is now hailed as a mental health “game-changer.”

Apparently, walking without blasting tunes in your ears or doomscrolling on your phone is supposed to reduce anxiety and improve mental health.

Arielle Lorre, a New York influencer, also contributed to the trend’s rise. She calls it a “grounding experience,” one that helped her “hear everything” and “smell everything.”

This new “trend” is really just walking — something humans have been doing forever, well before smartphones ever existed. But in a world where we’re glued to our screens, it seems stepping outside without a device is now considered radical self-care.

Of course, the internet couldn’t resist chiming in with its usual wit. One Facebook user summed it up: “‘Silent Walking,’ or as it was known by its previous name: ‘Walking.'”

Yet another comment nailed the irony: “Isn’t that what we used to do before phones? Funny how technology is supposed to make life easier, but we’re going back to the basics.”

“I do this all the time! I prefer my solo walks to just focus on nature sounds. Truly helps me,” someone else shared.

One person chimed in with sarcasm: “It’s hilarious how Gen Z thinks they’ve discovered everything.”

A win is a win.
