A viral TikTok shows just how tiny a golden retriever puppy can be shortly after being born. Posted by a user named Crystal Dayley ( @cuteanimalowner ), the video shows one of the many puppies in a litter her dog recently had.

The clip is only ten seconds long and shows Crystal’s hands cupped together. Her hands stay closed for the first half of the TikTok, before slowly opening them to reveal the tiny newborn pup she’d been hiding. The puppy, who is barely old enough to have his eyes open, seems to stretch and wriggle around now that he’s free to move a little.
The video has only been up for about two days as of writing but has already been viewed over 5.4 million times. 625 thousand people liked it, and thousands of users dropped by the comment section to share their own thoughts.
Users Couldn’t Get Over How Tiny The Dog Was.
According to the American Kennel Club , the average golden retriever is between 55 and 75 pounds. This puppy, meanwhile, looked like he barely even weighed one pound. Users who have goldens of their own talked about how they can’t believe their dogs were ever this small.
Thanks to their friendly, affectionate, and high-energy nature, golden retrievers are one of the most popular family dogs in the US. They might not be the brightest breed, but their ability to make friends with perfect strangers just makes them so lovable.

Some users joked about how the dog was just happy to be able to breathe (though based on the way Crystal was holding him, she didn’t seem to be restricting him all that much). Others thought her hands were supposed to be the focus of the video until they saw what was inside.
