This is not a drill, people.
Starbucks is officially going strawless with the formal announcement to use “sippy cup” lids for iced drinks. The lids are celebrated for containing approximately nine percent less plastic than flat lids and straws, and are made of polypropylene, a recyclable plastic.
It’s a wonderful decision in favor of eco-consciousness and we are so here for it!
Looks like iced lattes are saving the day.

Many of us have already seen and have probably used these lids, and their full implementation across the U.S. and Canada will happen by the end of September.
Blended beverages and drinks with whipped cream will still come in the usual lid-and-straw format.
This is a clever effort on the part of Starbucks to save billions of dollars on straws and lessen the brand’s contribution to landfills.
Starbucks is spilling the tea on sustainability.

Starbucks’ packaging engineer, Andy Corlett, who designed the new lids, explained in 2019:
“We have a major opportunity here. The impact and reach of this project make it really special. Plus, we think customers are going to love it.”
And he’s right. We are loving the sustainability of these lids!
Starbucks has bean planning.

Starbucks has a goal to reduce the waste they send to landfills by 50% by 2030.
For a company as large and widespread as Starbucks, that’s no easy task.
We love our Starbucks a latte.
Customers can still request straws, however, but Starbucks is also moving forward with primarily compostable straw options.
We didn’t think we needed another reason to love Starbucks, but we got one anyway.
