When the world stopped due to the COVID-19 pandemic, people suddenly started making things, or finishing projects they procrastinated on long enough. People were making bread and banana bread like it was going out of style, and others took up new crafts to occupy their time (and maybe de-stress at the same time).
Other people like Reddit user makethenews built a fully functioning treehouse hideaway in their backyard.
This little lush backyard forest outside of Atlanta is just begging to have an epic treehouse hideaway built into it.
That’s exactly what reddit user imakethenews did, and quarantine was the perfect excuse to tackle it.
Kyle actually started it in September 2019, but he was able to dedicate to more time to it after having unfortunately been laid off for two months due to shutdowns.
This isn’t your ordinary treehouse, however—it’s actually a functional living space.
The treehouse 120 square feet with a 50 square foot sleeping loft that fits a queen bed.
It also has working plumbing for a cute micro bathroom that uses a composting toilet, as well as a cute kitchenette.
There’s also a little living area complete with a foldout chair for an extra sleeping area.
The treehouse is powered by 12-volt DC batteries and there’s only one low-voltage electrical outlet to use, so it’s definitely meant for minimal living.
To get up to the treehouse, guests take a winding spiral staircase built around a tree, and walk over a suspension bridge that leads to a wraparound deck with a sitting area that overlooks a small serene stream.
If this sounds like an absolute dream, well, you can actually experience all the magic yourself!
It’s actually an Airbnb in Duluth, Georgia called Owl in the Oak Treehouse , and is available to rent for $260 a night.
What’s either really cool or creepy about the treehouse is that you may actually sway in it at night.
Because the treehouse is actually suspended in the trees, Kyle explains in the listing that guests may feel some swaying and creaking at night if it’s windy.
This is definitely not your average vacation rental experience!
The Airbnb treehouse already has a perfect 5-star rating, so I think it’s safe to say people are enjoying it in person as much as we are from afar.
Looks like Duluth, GA was just added to our travel list!
