The Irish singer and activist Sinéad O’Connor’s final wishes for her family were revealed in her will. O’Connor passed away at the age of 56 in July 2023, 18 months after her son Shane died by suicide.
She is now survived by three children and has stated direct instructions for what they should do with her fortune. The singer also mentioned her ex-husband, John Reynolds, as executor of the will.
Her estate is worth millions
The Nothing Compares to 2 U singer’s estate was worth £1.7 million ($2.11 million) before settling debts, legal fees, and funeral costs. It was then reduced to £1.4 million ($1.75 million) after settling those costs.
O’Connor’s children got her fortune
Irish probate records state that her fortune was equally distributed to her children after her death, according to The Sun.
In her will, the singer also requested that her albums, which sold 6.2million worldwide, be released so her children could “milk” her fortune.
The singer instructed her children
“I direct that after my death, and at the discretion of any of my children who are then over 18, my albums are to be released so as to ‘milk it for what it’s worth’,” the mom-of-four’s will reads.
O’Connor’s had four children
The In This Heart singer had four children, including her 17-year-old son Shane who died by suicide in 2022, only 18 months before she passed.
O’Connor died aged 56 after being found “unresponsive” in her home in London in July 2023.
She’s only survived by three children
The singer’s eldest is Jake Reynolds, 37, from her first husband John Reynolds. The artist also has a daughter, Roisin Waters, 29, with journalist John Waters, and her youngest child is 18-year-old son Yeshua Bonadio with Frank Bonadio.
John Reynolds is the executor
O’Connor named her first husband and music producer John Reynolds as the executor of the will. The two got married in 1987 but later split in 1991.
“My children can dispense my ashes as they see fit,” she stated in the document from 2013.
She also planned to pass on items
In her will, which was written and signed in 2013, the singer and activist had planned to pass down her religious regalia to her son Shane, who sadly passed away before she did.
She also planned that her guitar collection be passed down to her youngest, Yeshua Bonadio.
Her official cause of death was revealed
On July 24, 2024, the singer’s death was formally registered by her ex-husband John Lambeth, according to the Irish Independent.
The news outlet cited her death certificate at the time, stating that she died from “exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma together with low grade lower respiratory tract infection.”
