Selena Gomez was recently a guest star on Coach’s Dream It Real Podcast , where she opened up about going to therapy, her highly anticipated upcoming album, and why being called “pretty” really grinds her gears.
So, this particular interview was kind of a big deal — it was her first big interview of 2019.

Selena reassured her interviewer and her fans that she is not PR-trained — everything she says in an interview is candid and from the heart.
“I don’t really think that people know my heart….I don’t know how to be trained, like how on earth would somebody be training me to speak things?,” she said.

So, with that being said, we know we can take whatever Sel has to say at face-value.
You may or may not have already noticed that Sel has been taking a small hiatus from the spotlight.

She’s even revealed that she has a strict limit on how much time she spends surfing social media per day for the sake of her sanity.
She allows herself to post on social media for business purposes only.

Like when she has a new project on the go, or when she feels obligated to serve us a fire selfie — but even that is super infrequent nowadays.
“It is not that healthy to be on it [social media] all the time,” she said.

She explained that seeing so many successful looking, beautiful people would make her feel bad about herself.
“Because I noticed with me, I got kind of depressed looking at these people who look beautiful and amazing,” she went on.
“It would just get me down a lot, so I just think taking breaks is really important,”she added.

Ain’t that the truth!
The days before social media existed were hands down, simpler times.
She urged listeners to be mindful of how much they expose themselves to online.

“Sometimes people are exposed to too much,” she said. “You should really protect what you’re seeing.”
Selena revealed that one of the main ways she has been able to take control over her mental health has been by going to therapy.

She said that although it can be difficult at times, it has helped her understand her childhood and herself so much better.
In the midst of getting to know herself better, she explained that skin-deep things, like how “pretty” someone thinks she is, doesn’t interest her anymore.

“I don’t really appreciate people judging me on my looks or anything like that,” she said.
“I’m flattered when maybe guys are like, ‘You’re pretty.’ I am, but it’s just—I would just love someone to love me for the person that I am.”

“That’s just what’s important to me,” she finished.
She shared that her personal goals moving forward are to continue working on bettering herself, and making new music.

“Working on this new record, I just wanted it to be me, all me,” she said. “Every song is a story I’ve experienced. To that point, I think there’s no one who’s going to tell my story better than myself.
“I just really wanted to kind of just live with my story a bit and create it into something that means a lot to me.”

Although no solidified date has been set to release the album just yet, she has assured us that the “album is coming very soon.”
Sel has also recently let us know that there will be a season three of “13 Reasons Why”.

Again, there is no concrete date for this release either. But at least we know that Selena has a lot on the go right now — that’s what we like to hear!
To wrap up the interview, the interviewer asked Selena what her word is for 2019, Selena replied: “Intentional.”

“I want to be intentional with every moment of my life, I want to be clear-headed — from every word I write, to [being] intentional with people I care about. Making sure I’m living my life with purpose,” she said. “I want everything in my life to have meaning.”
So, if you’ve been wondering what Selena Gomez has been cooking up lately, there’s your answer!

She’s focused on being the best version of herself, working hard to release new music and release a third season of 13 Reasons Why .
