Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud has died at the age of 36 after spending two decades in a coma.
He was only 15 years old when he was injured in a car accident in 2005 in London.
The Saudi royal family announced the news

On Saturday, July 19, Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, the previously comatosed prince’s father, announced that he had died at the age of 36.
The father is a well-known Saudi royal and nephew of billionaire Prince Al Waleed bin Talal.
Prince Khaled wrote a message for his son

Announcing his son’s death in a social media post, Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud wrote, “With hearts believing in Allah will and decree, and with deep sorrow and sadness, we mourn our beloved son: Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may Allah have mercy on him, who passed away today.”
He had been in a coma for 21 years

Prince Al-Waleed, who was born in April 1990, fell into a coma after being involved in a car accident in 2005. He has since become known as the ‘sleeping prince’.
At the time, he was 15 years old and was studying at a military college in London, per Gulf News and the Mirror.
He was flown back home

Prince Al-Waleed was flown back to Riyadh after having sustained numerous brain injuries and internal bleeding from the car accident.
After being transported to King Abdulaziz Medical City in the Saudi city of Riyadh, he remained there in a coma until his death on July 19.
His father kept him on life support

As the prince remained in a coma for over two decades, his father had opted to keep him on life support and would consistently post about praying for his son’s recovery.
The father would share posts in holidays
Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud would share posts from his son’s hospital room on special occasions and holidays, with several of his posts going viral as people would pray for his son.
The ‘sleeping prince’ would have several in-person visitors over the years, who would pray for his recovery.
