There are a lot of lifehacks out there that really just don’t work. But, there are a lot that actually do work! And sometimes, they’re just so simple that you have to give them a chance, just in case they are totally life-changing.
I have a growing list of hacks that I’m trying at home, and a lot of them actually work. I’m pretty impressed with how much easier, tidier, or downright better some hacks make my life. So, why not give them a try?
1. Pill bottles are great for upcycling, but getting those stickers off is a pain!
If you freeze the container, it makes the stickers so much easier to rip off the plastic.
2. Don’t give up on the dream of crispy leftovers because you have to heat them up in the microwave!
You can use the toaster to crisp up your favorite snacks! I do this with leftover pancakes and waffles all the time.
3. I mean, if it works, it works?
As long as you don’t forget about the carrot, this is actually a half-decent solution to not having a cork. Just don’t leave it too long or you’ll end up with a strange looking carrot and weird AF wine.
4. Guys, I am so here for this next hack!
I usually eat anything that falls out of my tacos with a fork and knife, but this idea is honestly so much better. Pass the guac!
5. This is the ultimate hack to getting evenly buttered popcorn throughout your bag.
Use a straw to pump butter down into the middle of the bag. You’ll never eat movie popcorn another way again.
6. This is not a problem I often have, but it’s one I’ve seen happen to many others.
Do you have a tendency to walk away from a pot while it boils because you just can’t be bothered to wait around? This is the hack for you.
7. Looking for a cheap, yet chic way to host friends?
If you head to the tile section of any hardware store, you can get some pretty dope tiles to turn into coasters and charcuterie boards for next to nothing.
8. Are you ever shocked at how hot your computer charger can get?
You might as well take advantage of it! Keep that coffee you’re always forgetting about warm by using the charger as a hot plate.
9. Toss a couple of dryer sheets into some stinky shoes.
If you’re a little self-conscious about the smell of your feet, or you have a roommate that needs to up their hygiene game, then this hack is all yours.
10. Utilize that weird piece of plastic from a pizza box as a phone or tablet stand.
Most people just throw these guys in the trash, or use them as tables for their Barbies. But they can actually be useful!
11. This is probably not the greatest long-term solution, but if you need to use your phone, it’s good to know this works.
If you don’t have the necessary accessories on hand, this probably ain’t that cheap.
12. Never worry about finding the end of a roll of tape again!
I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that finding the end of the roll is always annoying. Using a bread tab to keep tabs on the end is genius!
13. When you get change back from a cashier, wrap it in a receipt so the change doesn’t roll around in your pockets.
I usually do this out of sheer laziness, but I’ll pretend it has a better purpose.
14. Keep your laptop open with this DIY fix.
If the hinge of your laptop breaks, use a picture frame stand from the dollar store to prop it open. I love lifehacks that save me money!
15. Here’s a nifty hack for all those DIYers out there.
If you add a bubble level to your drill, you’ll know that you are exactly 90-degrees perpendicular to the ground when you’re drilling vertically.
16. Isn’t moving the worst?
If you hate packing, try using garbage bags to move your clothes. You don’t even have to take them off the hanger.
17. A genius way to keep your dishwasher organized.
Flip a dish rack upside down to “cage” your Tupperware containers and keep them in place during a wash cycle. So smart!
18. This one is for all you travelers.
Instead of bringing multiple travel power adapters, just bring one and a regular power bar for your appliances. This will lighten your suitcase load!
19. Keep that dust away!
If you are drilling into a ceiling, place a plastic cup around your drill bit. The cup will help catch any dust or debris that falls when you drill.
20. Stack ’em up.
With some toothpicks and imagination, you can cook multiple hotdogs at once in your microwave. I don’t know about you, but this also kind of looks like a modern sculpture.
21. Never ruin Christmas again.
You’ve gotta have a piece of cardboard lying around in your house somewhere!
If you make a couple nicks on either short end, it’s a super easy way to wrap your lights around and ensure a happy and untangled Christmas tree decorating experience the following year.
22. Even empty floss containers can be repurposed.
They actually fit a small spool of thread and a needle, making it super easy to keep thread organized and take on the go!
23. No room in your home for a Christmas tree? No problem!
You can make your own hanging version out of thread and sticks that you can find around your own home.
What’s great is that you can still hang your favorite ornaments.
24. Candle warmer? More like queso warmer!
There’s nothing worse than nacho cheese that starts cooling off, getting all filmy and nasty.
A candle warmer will keep it a great temperature all night.
25. This hack is from 3020, for sure.
Who knew a full fast food meal could be enjoyed all in one hand?
26. Apparently, you can cook pasta in a coffee maker.

27. If you’re not tipping your condiment bottle upside down, you’re missing out!
No, really, there’s lots of sauce you could be throwing out.
Let’s not be wasteful in 2020. Let’s be innovative.
28. I don’t think whoever designed water fountains ever thought reusable water bottles would ever exist.
That’s where your cup’s accompanying straw comes in hand!
29. Write your grocery list on a sticky note and stick it right on the cart’s handle.
You won’t forget anything!
30. There’s nothing worse than your necklaces getting all knotted while traveling.
Nothing worse.
Wrapping them neatly and nicely around a towel is a great way to keep them happy and tangle-free so you can spend more time doing other exciting things!
31. Keep those seasoning packets!
If you save up enough from your pizza orders, you’ll be able to fill up your own jars at home.
32. Velcro to the rescue!
Since some cords and outlet adapters can be so small, use a small piece of velcro to keep everything together. Simply unhook the velcro when you need to use the cord.
33. If you have a baby, you might want to make a trip to Petsmart.
Apparently, dog beds make great playmats for babies. They aren’t too bulky like regular pillows and are easy to move to any room of the house.
34. Another great cord hack.
A simple toothpick can help keep your cords together and tidy. This is actually so smart.
35. Masterchefs everywhere need this hack.
The next time you need to prepare a lot of parsley, slide the stem through a colander. The leaves will pop right off into the bowl, ready to be washed.
36. No screen? No problem!
If your airplane seat doesn’t come with a screen, you can DIY one in a jiffy with your phone and a ziplock bag. Happy travels!
37. Keep those boots in order.
If you have tall boots that constantly fall over when you try to organize them, rolled up newspaper should do the trick. A well-organized shoe rack is just a few rolls of newspaper away.
38. Get rid of those fake drawers.
I don’t even know why fake drawers exist in the first place. Thankfully, it’s easy to convert them into a useful paper towel holder.
39. No more smushed snacks.
The next time you pack snacks in a ziplock bag, be sure to put some air in the bag. This will cushion your snacks so they don’t get crushed. It’s basically the DIY version of a chip bag.
40. Attach a magnet to your hammer so you don’t have to balance a nail between your teeth.
This idea is so genius that hammer manufacturers should probably just make hammers with magnets attached.
41. Chopsticks make eating Doritos (and Cheetos!) a lot less messy.
This way, you don’t get cheese dust all over your hands. My boyfriend refuses to eat them any other way.
