Police have confirmed that a shocking scene seems to have unfolded not far from Taylor Swift’s Rhode Island home on the morning of Wednesday, May 14.
Human remains were found

Westerly, R.I. police said they found what appeared to be human remains in the Watch Hill area, the enclave where Swift’s seaside holiday house is located.
Officers uncovered them at the scene

Arriving at the scene on Everett Avenue at around 9:30 a.m., officers said they uncovered “what appeared to be a human leg bone,” as per People.
The Rhode Island Medical Examiner’s Officer has received the remains for analysis.
They’re still waiting on results

The statement goes on, “Investigators are awaiting official confirmation of the identity of the remains.” Investigators said they don’t suspect foul play at this time.
A resident spoke about it on the news

On the local news outlet NBC10 WJAR, a resident named Taylor Day spoke about the incident. Day said she saw “three police cars, one undercover . . . and there was a medical examiner pulling in behind me.”
“It kind of alarmed me, and it was just something very out of the ordinary for Westerly,” she added.
Day identified the area as near Swift’s residence

The resident said that the scene was near Taylor Swift’s holiday home as well as the area’s most famous historic hotel.
She explained, “It was probably a couple football fields away from Taylor Swift’s house and the Ocean House,” before adding, “I would never expect anything like that—especially not in Watch Hill.”
Swift bought the home back in 2013

According to the New York Times, Swift bought her Rhode Island home in 2013, reportedly for $17.75 million.
The singer has famously invited her celebrity friends to the home, with guests including people like Gigi Hadid, Selena Gomez, Ed Sheeran, and the Haim sisters.
The beach town is a quiet one

The affluent town by the beach is also known for Victorian-style homes, described by the New York Times as having a “strong sense of privacy.”
So like Day said, it seems such grim problems are far from what Westerly has ever seen before.
