Let me ask you: do you have an interesting job ? Well, if you do, then I’m sure you’ve heard your share of odd questions about what you do, huh? As they say, it comes with the territory.
So I was quite intrigued when I stumbled upon this Twitter thread that asked people to share the irritating questions they get asked once people find out what they do for work . Let’s take a look at a few of these fascinating answers. Shall we?
So this person started a thread on Twitter.
Apparently, one of the annoying questions they get asked as a bookseller is if they have read all the books that come their way. Ha, ha, I bet they wish they had time for that. But in reality, that would be pretty impossible, huh?
Then, other people chimed in with their own stories.

Like this person, for example, who was an archeologist. My guess is he got tired of this being asked.
“When I was an archeologist, people used to ask ‘found any gold?’ Yes, because freed slaves in Annapolis had a lot of gold sitting around so they buried it. Same with tenant farmers in Landover.”
Check out this annoyed vet.
Oh my goodness, this person has to resort to lying about their profession just so they don’t get asked for free medical advice, lol. I totally get that, though. Going to the vet can be an expensive endeavor. Am I right?
I bet this dermatologist has heard it all.
Oh boy! Truth be told, it’s hard to find a good dermatologist. I have been on the lookout for one and still haven’t found a decent one. So can I ask this lady to look at my mole? Ha, ha.
This cheese shop owner gets it.
Aww, I wish I could visit her store to see exactly how cute it is. On the other hand, keeping a cheese shop is hard work, and I’m sure people tend to forget that, hence the annoyance here.
This computer geek gets enough of this.

If you work in tech support, I bet you get people asking this all the time, “Can you fix my computer?” or “Can you hack Facebook?” Ha, ha, oh my goodness. That’s a never-ending tale.
Can you imagine being an international beer judge?
Oh, yes, that’s right. That is a real job. And this lady needs to constantly field questions like that. Um, newsflash, I know lots of women who love to drink and appreciate beer.
This teacher’s assistant unfairly gets asked this all the time.
I can only guess that they work just as hard as teachers, if not more but get paid way less. So to assume this must get pretty annoying and fast.
What does a cloud engineer do for a living?
Well, it definitely doesn’t have anything to do with clouds, ha, ha. I guess if you work in any IT type of job, people just assume that you can fix all the equipment, huh?
Check this out.
Oh my goodness, what? Come on? Can people really be that dumb? Just so we’re clear this teacher might need to know Braille and not sign language. Sign language is used to communicate with people who are hard of hearing.
This social worker must have seen a lot worse.
So don’t worry about cleaning the mess in your house or getting your children to behave better. I’m pretty sure those are not situations that would get your kids taken away.
This property lawyer must have some good laughs.

“‘Can I call you if I ever get arrested?’ No, I’m a property lawyer, that will not go well for you.”
Ha, ha! It’s funny how people think that any lawyer can do criminal law, huh? It just doesn’t work like that.
This pub worker must get so tired of that.
Honestly, it isn’t fair for people to assume that if you work in a pub, you must just be getting by while you’re a student or something like that. Why can’t a person enjoy their job?
I know something about that.
I did a co-op in a library, and I can tell you right now reading books was never on my schedule, ha, ha. I did, however, put many books away in their rightful place though, and had to know where to locate them.
I guess this joke gets tired fast.
The funny thing is that people who make jokes like that think they’re the only ones. But that can’t be further from the truth. I bet this person hears this all the time. I can see them rolling their eyes, ha, ha.
Seriously, I don’t envy this person here.

“I’m an accountant – always ‘can you help me pay less tax?'”
Oh my gosh, tax season is rough. You must agree with me on that. I’m not even an accountant, and I dread doing my taxes every single year.
How ridiculous is this, huh?

“As an officer in the US Army, when you tell people what post you’re assigned to, they ask if you know someone they know. They don’t know the person’s rank or unit, just that they are also at that post. Ft. Hood, Texas. There are about 50,000 people there! I don’t know Jimmy, sorry.”
Yeah, like all service men and women know each other.
I bet every single stay-at-home mom gets annoyed with that.
If you’re one, I can see you shaking your head right about now. This is the kind of job that’s super important, yet many people simply don’t get it. And you don’t even get paid for it.
Okay, I hope this sheds some light on how different people’s jobs are that we often don’t realize.

So next time you feel like asking a stupid question — think about it first. What I would say instead is, “tell me more about what you do for a living?” and let them do all the talking. That way, you can get educated and give this person the time to explain it to you properly.
