It’s the end of August and that means kids are on their way back to school.
It’s that bittersweet time of year where parents are confronted with the undeniable fact that their babies are another year older while they also rejoice at the house being quiet for the first time in two months.

When the Moore family dropped their two children off for their first day, they expected it to be like any other.
Maybe some nerves, maybe some tears, but not a heartwarming moment between eight-year-old Christian and a fellow student.
They definitely didn’t expect it to go viral.
After his mom shared a couple of photos on her Facebook page, it began to get shared beyond just friends and family. Eventually, it was discovered by the local news station and now we can all hear about Christian’s kindness.
You know how the first day of school is.
It’s a zoo. You have all the kids and teachers, but also all the parents. They’re trying to walk that line between supportive and practical, letting their kids learn independence.
It can be hard for a parent to know when to step in.
As the kids all crowded toward the doors, Christian noticed another boy curled up and crying in a corner.
Tears aren’t uncommon on the first day of school, but Christian clearly didn’t like seeing another kid suffer.
He didn’t know the boy, but went right to him, bending to console him and then quietly taking his hand to walk together into the school.
Christian didn’t know this at the time, but the boy’s name is Connor and he has autism.
He just saw another kid his age feeling sad and wanted to help.
Christian didn’t make a show of it or look for praise, he just did it.
Christian’s mom, Courtney, watched it in awe.
“I saw him on the ground with Connor as Connor was crying in the corner and he was consoling him,” she told KAKE.
She was just so proud of him.
“He grabs his hand and walks him to the front door. We waited until the bell rang and he walked him inside of the school. The rest is history. They have an inseparable bond.”
Connor’s mom April had worried about him, but was blown away by Christian’s silent kindness.
“I fear everyday that someone is going to laugh at him because he doesn’t speak correctly, or laugh at him because he doesn’t sit still or because he jumps up and down and flaps his hands,” she said.
Instead of the bullying she feared, Connor made a friend.
The photos and Facebook post were shared thousands of times, and everyone has be praising Christian for his kindness.
Perhaps he saw a kindred spirit in Connor.
Christian struggles with his speech and perhaps understood better than most that speech wasn’t necessary to comfort Connor. He just needed a hand.
In a world where people seem more and more cynical, we often voice worries about how our children will grow up.
But I think that’s why moments like this are so important to remind us of children’s inherent goodness.
Connor said it best:
“He was kind to me. It was in the 1st day of school and I started crying then he helped me and I was happy.”
