As the baby boomer generation is aging, many people are deciding what to do when it comes to their parents. Some families are willing to take their parents in while others are struggling with a decision in regards to nursing home options.
But what if you could have your mom or dad live with you in a “granny pod” instead? Find out about this fascinating idea below.
A “granny pod” is essentially a tiny home that’s designed like a hospital room with all the necessary amenities an aging parent might need such as high-tech medical extras.

Cute and functional, no?
This type of dwelling would be a perfect choice for those who are wanting to have their parents nearby but still want to have their own space as well.

Everyone gets some privacy this way.
The “granny pod” was designed by a company called N2Care, that was realized with the help from Virginia Tech.

And it’s an innovative take on senior care.
This tiny home company called ‘MEDCottage’ makes what is basically a mobile, modular medical dwelling designed to be temporarily placed on a caregiver’s property.

What a great idea.
It’s a state-of-the-art hospital room that comes equipped with remote monitoring so the caregivers and family members can have peace of mind knowing their parents are well taken care of.

Love this idea!
The MedCottage is a great alternative to the traditional nursing home which can come with hefty monthly bills.

This instead gives you proximity at a fraction of the cost.
MEDCottages are pre-fabricated and designed to be installed in the backyard behind the main home once you check whether your zoning laws do permit this type of dwelling.

Who wouldn’t love a tiny home in their backyard?
This convenient small dwelling can be hooked up to your main home’s existing sewer, water, and power lines.

And they pretty much resemble something similar to a bungalow.
The usual standard safety features include hand railings, defibrillators, first aid supplies, lighted floorboards and a soft floor to minimize damage from falls.

All this for about $85,000 to $125,000.
The cottage feels like a nice hotel suite with enough room for a bed, living room space, kitchenette and a bathroom. It’s about 12 by 24 feet. Not too shabby.

The cottages offer double French doors which definitely adds an attractive touch, and can also accommodate a wheelchair and hospital equipment if needed. That sounds like a great option.

The “granny pod” idea is becoming so popular that TV shows and news outlets have discussed this new alternative to senior living.

They are a new take on the tiny home trend.
The MedCottage team will work with you depending on the space available in your backyard but they pretty much are able to accommodate a variety of spaces.

Sounds awesome!

Are you on board? Or do you think this will make the senior feel awkward living in the backyard?
