Here are the best fan theories out there, but beware of spoilers ahead!
1. Michael will betray everyone.
Given his last storyline, he may feel manipulated by Polly and Tommy and turn his back on them.
As the gang’s accountant this could cripple them.
2. There will be a takeover.
With Michael placing himself firmly in Tommy’s shadow, he could prove ruthless enough to take Tommy’s position by force.
3. The Glasgow Razor Gang.
Once a prominent fan theory, the possibility of the Shelby clan tangling with one of the notorious Glasgow Razor Gangs in season 5 has now been confirmed by the creator Steven Knight .
4. The Billy Boys.
We can’t know for sure which faction of the razor gang will be featured but the show has dropped hints about it being The Billy Boys .
5. Fans were hoping we’d get a glimpse of WWII.
Some think there could be a time jump sending the characters forward into WWII this season.
But Steven Knight confirmed otherwise.
It has been confirmed that the last episode of season 7 will be set at the beginning of WWII so we’ll have to wait a little longer.
6. The youth will rise.
By the time WWII rolls around, many of the younger characters will be old enough to be drafted or enlist.
Fans are worried especially for Finn and Charlie.
7. Speaking of Charlie Shelby…
Tommy might send him to boarding school to prepare him for the upper-class life.
This would be good to get him away from the gang life.
It would also be for Charlie’s protection.
He was already kidnapped once in season 3 so its understandable Tommy might become more overbearing as Charlie grows up.
8. There will be an expansion.
Tommy Shelby may expand his gang’s reach into New York and Chicago.
It would make sense since it was during an era when organized crime was at its peak for those areas.
9. Fans hope that Al Capone will make an appearance.
Many fans felt that season 4 was building up to an appearance from Capone but were disappointed when the theory was dismissed by the showrunners.
Maybe season 5 will be our time!
10. Tommy and May romance?
Given Tommy’s tendency to love ’em then leave ’em or lose ’em, there could be a rekindling of love between Tommy and May.
11. Friend or Foe?
Jessie Eden is suspected to return for season 5, and fans think she will be coming back as an enemy.
12. Tom Hardy will return.
Many hope that Hardy’s character Alfie Solomons will magically come back from the dead after being shot in the face.
This one is a little unlikely.
