Spring has finally sprung, which means that Easter is right around the corner. If the warm weather hasn’t given you a hat tip, the shelves packed with pastels and bunny rabbits most definitely will.
Most parents look forward to Easter since they get to make adorable Easter baskets for their kids.

Many parents enjoy packing their kids’ Easter baskets filled with tons of candy, fun toys, and adorable Easter-themed items.
Many candy companies market products just for Easter.

Chocolate and candy companies that usually produce “regular ol’ candy” spruce things up for Easter, like making chocolate eggs, bunnies, and chicks.
Many parents tend to buy smaller candies to cut down on the sugar intake.

Some parents think that buying smaller eggs is better because it’s way less candy and sugar for their kids to consume.
However, one paramedic is warning parents to refrain from buying smaller eggs.

Australian paramedic Nikki, who runs the Tiny Hearts Foundation, recently posted a PSA on Instagram warning parents and hoping they’ll stray away from purchasing “small eggs” this year.
Nikki’s social media pages are dedicated to all things related to child safety and health.

She often posts helpful PSAs, video tutorials, or answers her followers’ questions about child safety. With Easter coming up, she decided to do a timely post about a hidden danger most parents don’t know about.
She claims that smaller chocolate eggs are a huge choking hazard.

“Up to 85% of choking deaths are caused by food and with Easter around the corner I want this to be at the forefront of your mind,” Nikki wrote.
According to experts, parents need to be mindful of common food chocking hazards for children under the age of four.

Foods like grapes, hot dogs, and hard candies (like solid chocolate Easter eggs) need to be cut up or avoided altogether.
The paramedic says large, hollow eggs are the way to go.

“Many of the Easter eggs we see on the shelves are real choking hazards. When purchasing please choose larger, hollow eggs broken into small pieces as they are less of a choking hazard,” she continued.
She also reminded parents to always “supervise” their kids.

“Remember, always supervise your little one when eating, Choking is silent, it happens quickly, and knowing exactly what to do in a choking emergency is the difference between a scare and a life-changing moment,” she concluded.
Many thanked the paramedic for sharing the info.

Some parents said they had never, “Thought of that with eggs before,” and thanked the paramedic for sharing the important and useful information.
Others said that they are sharing the posts with family.

Some grandparents think it’s “never too young” for the Easter fun, so they want to make sure that their family members all see this post to keep their little ones safe.
Since this post was shared, parents have been sending it to friends and family.

The comment section on Instagram is filled with parents tagging their friends and family to ensure that everyone gets the message and has a safe Easter.
Numerous parents shared their personal experiences as well.

It’s no secret that young children will put anything and everything in their mouths. That’s why parents need to be extra careful when it comes to choking hazards.
Thanks to Nikki’s post, everyone can focus on having a safe and fun Easter!
When it comes to this year’s egg hunt, you can select the large, hollow eggs like Nikki suggested, or age-appropriate toys. Happy Easter, everyone!
