A new pope has been elected by the conclave as Pope Francis’ successor following his death at 88 in April.
Since then, the new pope’s internet activity has been resurfacing where he appeared to express firm opinions about Donald Trump’s policies.
The new pope is Pope Leo XIV
It was revealed on Thursday, May 8, that the man elected to be Pope Francis’ successor is Cardinal Robert Prevost, 69, whose papal name will be Pope Leo XIV.
He will be the official head of the Catholic Church.
He’s the first American pope
Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost makes history by being the first American pope in history to be elected into the position.
Since then, a few of his tweets have resurfaced, showing his criticism of Trump’s policies in the US.
Trump had joked about becoming pope
You’ll remember the US president had previously joked about wanting to be the next pope.
This is in addition to the AI-generated image posted to his social media, showing him dressed as the pope, which he later denied having known about.
The new pope had reposted a tweet talking about deportation
Most recently, the new pope had reposted a tweet that reads: “As Trump & Bukele use Oval to Feds’ illicit deportation of a US resident, once an undoc-ed Salvadorean himself, now-DC Aux +Evelio asks, ‘Do you not see the suffering? Is your conscience not disturbed? How can you stay quiet?’”
Another tweet also resurfaced
It was reported by The Independent that Prevost had also reposted a tweet that reads: “There is nothing remotely Christian, American, or morally defensible about a policy that takes children away from their parents and warehouses them in cages. This is being carried out in our name and the shame is on us all.”
The new pope has also criticized JD Vance
Pope Leo XIV also didn’t hold back on his opinions on Vice-President JD Vance, resharing an op-ed from the National Catholic Reporter titled: “JD Vance is wrong: Jesus doesn’t ask us to rank our love for others.”
This was in response to JD Vance’s words on Fox News
The article was a response to what JD Vance said on Fox News, where he claimed, “There is a Christian concept that you love your family and then you love your neighbor, and then you love your community, and then you love your fellow citizens, and then after that, prioritize the rest of the world.”
“A lot of the far left has completely inverted that.”
This comes after Trump reacted to news of the new pope
These resurfaced comments and reshares have come shortly after Trump expressed his excitement about news of Pope Leo XIV being elected.
On Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Congratulations to Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, who was just named Pope. It is such an honor to realize that he is the first American Pope.”
“What excitement, and what a Great Honor for our Country. I look forward to meeting Pope Leo XIV. It will be a very meaningful moment!”
