Nicole Campbell’ s has left fans divided.
The 51-year-old supermodel is in hot water with fans after making an arguably questionable comment, clarifying that her daughter wasn’t adopted, that many fans have since dubbed “insensitive” and “completely offensive to all parents who have adopted children,” and others have pointed out that her comment invalidates parenthood for those with adopted children.
Back in May 2021, Naomi Campbell announced via Instagram that she had welcomed her first child, a daughter.

“A beautiful little blessing has chosen me to be her mother,” she captioned a photo of her baby’s feet.
“So honored to have this gentle soul in my life there are no words to describe the lifelong bond that I now share with you, my angel,” she went on.

“There is no greater love.”
Naturally, fans had questions.
The announcement that Naomi had entered motherhood came as a surprise to most, as there hadn’t been any public indicators that she was planning for a child.

The model had been tight-lipped about all the details surrounding the birth of her daughter up until February 14 , 2022.
On Valentine’s Day, British Vogue unveiled a photo of Naomi and her daughter for the cover of their March 2022 issue.

This is, unfortunately, where things took a bit of a turn.
In a paired interview with British Vogue, Naomi was asked about her experience so far being a new mom.

While she didn’t reveal much, she did hint that she will be revealing more details about it in an upcoming book that she’s currently working on.
She also made a brief comment that hasn’t been sitting right with some people.

“She wasn’t adopted, she’s my child,” Naomi stated.
Of course, whether the child was adopted or not, she would still her child. So, many found this remark to be offensive toward parents who have adopted children.
“An adopted child is also their Mother’s child – they’re just not sharing genetic material,” one person tweeted.

“‘She’s not adopted, she’s my child.’ Well, Naomi Campbell, I love you, yes, and not to be picky, sis… But let me teach you thing one: If you adopt a child, then this child is your child. Don’t know if it’s too hard to comprehend but… Yea. Adopted kids become sons and daughters,” anothe r person added .
Someone else chimed in, revealing that as an adopted child, they never saw their adopted parents as less than anything but their real parent.

“As an adoptee, let me make this very clear: I was my parents’ child. The huge effort it takes to adopt, love, and raise a child isn’t different. It might be more intense because it’s harder. They made sure to let me know this,” the Twitter user penned .
Another Twitter user sounded off, explaining that their adopted children are still very much theirs.

“As an adoptive mother I can tell you that I consider my child ‘mine,'” they wrote.
