A TikTok mom recently went viral after sharing her attempt at a creative hack to remove a stubborn splinter from her child’s hand. While it wasn’t exactly a laugh-out-loud moment, her relatable struggle and determination to make the process easier resonated with fellow moms across the platform who had plenty of their own tips to share.
Autumn Grace was trying to figure out how to get her daughter’s splinter out using tweezers.

After about 20 minutes of failing at that, she went looking on TikTok. That’s where she saw a mom hack she knew she just had to try. I mean, what else was she supposed to do, right? So she quickly made a video to share with other moms.
Grace said the video she saw advised pouring hot water into a cup and placing the hand over it.

It also told her to keep the hand over the cup for at least five minutes. And then the splinter would just come out. So she proceeded to do just that.
She used a mason jar filled with hot water from the tap and placed her daughter’s hand over it.

As the video instructed, she had her daughter hold her hand there for five minutes. Then she looked at the splinter… and it was still there.
Okay, so the hack didn’t exactly work as promised.
But Grace didn’t give up. This time she tried with tweezers again, and lo and behold, the splinter came out.
After she posted the video on TikTok, a lot of other moms chimed in.

As it turns out, the reason the hack didn’t exactly work could have been the size of the cup, as some pointed out. Since her daughter’s hand was so small, she should have used a smaller cup.
The whole idea is to create suction.

The suction would then bring the splinter up so it could come out. Aha! I get it now. That’s so clever. I admit, I would have never thought of this idea, nor have I heard of it before.
Or you can do what this person said and dump the water out.

Hmm, that’s an idea. As it turns out, there are other ways to get the splinter out. One person suggested taking a medicine syringe, cutting off the tip, then positioning the end over the splinter and suctioning it right out. Wow!
You can also use Splinter Out.

It’s a little silver tool that apparently works better than tweezers. I hadn’t heard of that either. Have you used it before? Or you can just invest in better tweezers!
And then there’s coconut oil.

Oh my! I definitely have coconut oil at home, so that’s a good one. Another person suggested soaking the hand in hot soapy water for about 10 to 15 minutes, then squeezing gently. It’s supposed to come right out.
Well, thank you very much, everyone!

I don’t know about you, but I found all these tips extremely helpful. It’s definitely hard to see your child suffer, so I’m hoping if you ever encounter this situation, you can get the splinter out in a jiffy. And if you have any other suggestions, feel free to share with all of us.
