Miley was recently on the cover of Vanity Fair, and she looked gorgeous as usual.
Married life seems to be treating her well.
She opens up in her interview about what the last year of her life has really been like.
She opens up about her house burning down, how that brought her and Liam closer together, and her decision to marry him.
Having your house burn down is one of the most catastrophic things that can happen to a person.
All of your memories, and possessions that you’ve worked hard for are suddenly taken away from you and you are forced to start over completely.
Right before Miley and Liam tied the knot, Miley’s California home burned down.
The two were planning on getting married there. But evidently, this changed everything .
So instead of having their wedding at her Malibu home, that was no longer there, they chose to have a secret wedding at her Nashville home instead.
Just before Christmas, the pair had a very low-key, modest ceremony in Nashville, that only their close friends and family attended.
Although, it didn’t stay a secret for long.
Our Instagram feeds were to be bombarded with adorable wedding photos soon enough.
It was a Christmas miracle!
But Miley says that her house burning down changed their relationship for the better.
“What Liam and I went through together changed us,” she revealed . “I’m not sure without losing Malibu, we would’ve been ready to take this step or ever even gotten married.”
“When you experience what we experienced together with someone, it is like glue.”
“You’re the only two people in the world who can understand,” she added.
Getting married is a fairly old-fashioned, traditional thing to do, which is usually not Miley’s style.
She revealed that her choice to get married was “kind of out of character” for her.
Miley then opened up about what it means to be a queer person in a heterosexual relationship.
This is a foreign topic for a lot of people, and not always something that’s easy to understand.
But Miley has been redefining societal norms for a long time, and that has never excluded her relationship with Liam, despite their decision to do the old-fashioned thing and get married.
“A big part of my pride and my identity is being a queer person.”
“We’re redefining, to be [expletive] frank, what it looks like for someone that’s a queer person like myself to be in a hetero relationship,” she said .
Miley’s philosophy is to love who you love for who they are, and not what their gender is.
“What I preach is: People fall in love with people, not gender, not looks, not whatever. What I’m in love with exists on almost a spiritual level. It has nothing to do with sexuality,” she continued.
“Like, who gives a [expletive] if he’s a guy, if I’m a girl, or if he was a woman — who gives a [expletive]?”
“We really are stronger together. One is the loneliest number,” she went on.
Then she said something so sweet, that I think Liam might just be the luckiest man in the world.
“My relationship is very special to me, it is my home. I feel less misplaced when we are in the same room, no matter where that is.”
In a world where not everybody is as accepting as they should be, Miley deserves a round of applause for being so open about who she is.
The world needs more people like her!
If her and Liam are happy, we’re happy.
