Although she’s not showing any signs of slowing down, it’s already safe to say that Martha Stewart has lived quite a life.
After all, we may be able to name a few people who built something of an empire off of food and lifestyle advice but how many of them know what it’s like in jail and regularly hang out with Snoop Dogg?
And because Stewart has lived such an interesting life, it can be easy to get lost when you’re trying to keep track of its more colorful aspects.
That’s something that the staff of the New York Post found out the hard way when she caught wind of an inaccuracy in one of their reports.
On May 15, the *New York Post* published a profile on author Mike Flynn, who wrote a book about owning peacocks.

But while the story largely focused on Flynn’s relationship with his peacocks and the contents of his book Why Peacocks? An Unlikely Search for Meaning in the World’s Most Magnificent Bird , it also mentioned that Stewart was known for having 16 peacocks of her own.
The next day, Stewart took to Twitter, referring to the report as “fake news.”
As she wrote on Twitter, “I actually have 21 of these glorious birds whose house is impeccable.”
Sure enough, if you were to look at the New York Post article now, you’d likely notice a correction that reads, “Stewart clarified via Twitter that she actually has 21 ‘glorious’ and impeccably clean peacocks.”
If you’re wondering what that part about them being “impeccably” clean is about, the correction also touches on something else in Stewart’s tweet.

As she wrote, “They do not smell. They are so clean! Their voices are loud but such fun to hear. They are so friendly.”
It’s unclear whether the article originally suggested otherwise.
Stewart’s 21 peacocks are just a sample of the “hundreds and hundreds of pets” she keeps on her property.
As she told Today back in 2019, these include flocks of geese and chickens, six horses, three cats, four dogs, three donkeys, and 45 red canaries.
Of course, she said she had 13 peacocks at the time of that interview so there’s a chance that some of those other numbers are now out of date as well.
